The problem with the message about vaccine safety is that we don't actually know what the problem is. And without a good theory we sound like crazy people. So finding the root of the problem is critical. Her theory is the firsts that we'll had that makes 100% sense. But we don't have the expertise to judge it directly. So we have to judge her personal credibility as a proxy.
The importance of that Notable, in which she espouses such obvious nonsense, shows that she in nutjob. And that, unfortunately, undercut the credibility of her mouse-virus-in-that-vaccines theory.

Bingo. Vaccination against one strain simply removes competition for a different strain. That why there is no regular common-cold virus vaccine. And it's why flu vaccines are less likely to be for the right strain as the percentage of the population getting flu shots increases.
