Los Angeles-class attack submarines regularly dock at Naval Base Point Loma, but the base gets comparatively few visits from an Ohio-class ballistic missile sub. There’s one here now; the 560-foot Pennsylvania has arrived in San Diego Bay, says the Navy. The boat is one of 18 Ohio-class subs – vessels that carry strategic thermonuclear warheads. These are the largest subs ever built for the American fleet and are capable of carrying up to 24 Trident missiles. The Pennsylvania, which is homeported at Bangor, Washington, completed a major refueling overhaul last summer.
