POTUS does not need to stop the press briefings because they are a distraction for him, or because they are pointless. If he stops them it will be because they have accomplished their purpose.

A great awakening is a gradual process in two ways. One way is that it spreads gradually from person to person. The second way is that individual people wake up gradually. A fairly small number of people knew that most of the press was BS most of the time before Trump. Since PT, that number has grown a lot and grew a lot more during these press briefings. People’s attitude toward the press is on a continuum, from completely trust the press all the time, to mostly trust the press most of the time, to usually trust the press, to mostly don’t trust the press, to trust the press sometimes, to never trust the press.

This is all fluid and it is necessary to move people away from complete trust. Once somebody comes up against a reason to begin doubting the press, it introduces a small spark of skepticism into their consumption of it. Once this happens they can begin to notice more and more discrepancies leading to more and more skepticism and brighter and brighter sparks until suddenly they are flooded with light and find themselves completely awake. Sort of like waking my teenage daughter, it’s a process with stages of “awakeness.”

I have no doubt that these briefings have introduced many sparks of light to many people. Now they just need time to discover more light on their own.

Trump has been talking about the Invisible Enemy, seemingly alluding to the Chinese virus, but in a recent tweet he identified the press as the Invisible Enemy (I think just one arm of it). I think that discrediting the press is a huge part of the Great Awakening.
