I didn't start to understand patriotism until my mid-20s. I was so brainwashed it is almost painful to admit. They did a number on my head, and the mechanism was so simple - just keep repeating platitudes, hook me on my idealism, never show raw data. It is only when I first realized I was being lied to (and it was GamerGate of all things - shoutout to /v/ ) I started to really look into information and it's sources/factuality. And what I saw was… terrifying.
