I recall something about "African swine fever" and chinese pig farms having to kill all of their herd to prevent it from spreading to another farm.

Reports of as much as a 25% dip in pork output. Lots of questions as to how China would replace the deficit of pork. Prices were expected to rise due to this, and now with the extra hogs being slaughtered since the shutdown…

Haven't heard much about this since then. Especially since kung flu took over headlines out of china.

 

First reports out of china were early 2019, but this bloomberg article was updated in November.

There were several "sources" all from comped places easily available. I chose the most recent one i could find in about 2 minutes of searching.

Many of the numbers of culled/infected pigs didn't line up between the few that i clicked on.

Will research more on this tomorrow.
