Before the bell

Stocks are set to add to Mondayโ€™s gains with Dow futures up more than 400 points

U.S. stock futures were higher on Tuesday as investors continued to be optimistic about the prospect of states re-opening the U.S. economy.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were up 424 points, or 1.8%. S&P 500 futures were up 1.5% and Nasdaq 100 futures gained 1%.

Shares of Pfizer and 3M were both higher after first-quarter earnings results, helping sentiment.

A partial reopening of the economy โ€” in Alaska, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and others โ€” had earlier boosted investor sentiment, with certain U.S. businesses poised to benefit from the first wave of consumers emerging from the coronavirus driven quarantine. The moves came as oil prices continued to sell-off. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude for June delivery plunged almost 20% at one point following a more than 24% decline on Monday.

However, oil rebounded off the worst levels of the overnight session and were last down 7%.

Oil prices have come under pressure in recent weeks as concerns mount over declining storage capacity. Bank stocks also got a boost from rising bond yields, as investors fled safer assets and moved into equities. JPMorgan rose 4.3%, Citigroup surged 8% and Wells Fargo gained 5.5%. Bank of America and Goldman Sachs rose 5.8% and 3.7%, respectively.

Investors are also digesting the busiest week of earnings season, with 145 S&P 500 companies reporting between Monday and Friday. A quarter of the way through earnings season companies have proved the coronavirus is weighing heavy on corporate profits.

Consumer confidence will be released at 10 am E.T. on Tuesday. Economists polled by Dow Jones are expecting a read of 92 in April, down from Marchโ€™s read of 120.

don't really get into the prediction game and you shouldn't take advice from a public board however if the said re-opening occurs as planned it would not be a bad time-but please tread carefully as the algo's scan for headlines to react to and if they find something that is not positiveโ€ฆ..any gains you have can evaporate before you even know what that news is.

One thing you have to always consider is that this entire system in VERY controlled. You can be so "right" you are wrong..iykwim.

The money that left during the last drop does not seem to be coming back so if you do, make sure it's moar of a long term thing.
