Mr. President,

With due respect, what are you going to do to defend our rights?

I keep hearing about how unfair it was for you to be spied upon, for Flynn to be mistreated. I agree that these things were terrible. But, let me give you some perspective.

You've both had your privacy and due process rights violated?

So have we.

Ever since the "Patriot" act was instituted, we've all been unjustly spied upon. That act was instituted almost 20 years ago and we now have about 300 million Americans who are affected by it.

You don't like being spied on? Neither do we. And, however unjust it is for one or two people, multiply that by millions and you get what we have been subject to for almost two decades.

As for being deprived of due process, millions of law-abiding Americans have been unconstitutionally ordered into house arrest, we've been ordered to shut our businesses, we've been having healthcare decisions forced upon us by tyrannical officials, we've been deprived of the rights to assemble and practice religion, we've been deprived of our privacy rights under the Constitution as well as under HIPAA, we've been subjected to forced testing and hospitalization, we've had 2nd Amendment rights deprived by having gun stores and license processing halted, and we've had family members forcibly taken from us.

Many of us do support you and Flynn and we are absolutely against what happened to both of you. But, your complaints about your rights being violated while many of us are still locked up in our homes, forced to close businesses, being policed about wearing masks and "social distancing," is starting to fall on deaf ears. Your causes would have so much more gravity if our own situations weren't so dire. Many of us wish we could sue but our funds have been expired by being forced out of work, fired, furloughed, etc., during this lockdown.

I read the comments of Americans on social media, message boards, etc., and what I see is terrifying. Our country is unrecognizable. We don't have a de facto Bill of Rights anymore. What's most concerning isn't that we're at our wit's end as a country. People have committed suicide at such a rate that it has outnumbered the COVID-19 deaths in certain states in daily/weekly periods. I'm sure I don't need to tell you that it's only a matter of time before that violence turns outwards towards others. What may not be clear is that so many people are at their wit's end that any significant violent event could, I fear, launch our country into an unrecoverable spiral destined to civil war. The tyranny that we see today is terrible enough. I don't want to see one more of my fellow Americans take their own life or the life of another.

Please be the president that you told us you would be. We need our rights restored and this emergency lifted so that we can begin to heal as a country – something which, at this point, has precious little to do with any virus.

I'd prefer you not answer me in words, but in action. I ask you again, sir: What are you going to do to defend our rights?

Please, do not tell me. Show me.
