I just noticed that Old North Church doesn't have a cross at the top of the steeple. Instead the crosses are three levels lower. I wonder if that's a case of revealing symbolism. The original steeple has burned down, but the current cross situation appears to be a restoration of the original one.
I'm reminded of the Tampere Cathedral and its seeming phobia of true crosses anywhere along with much complex and suspicious symbolism.
