most likely it was a monopoly to start and the tech had to be shared so they had to set up to not allow radio interference. Under that guideline they should have nothing to do with wired tech!
ya, the gimp text is a bit of a pain.
Helps a lot to just copy a text layer and change it and move it wher you want it.
Once you get the hang of it . . . it's not hard at all.
I like to do a lot of masking. I usually over lay the same text to get effects that make it pop out.
The hardest part is that text is usually far too large to start, and it's not obvious how to change the fonts.
