I bet a private server with only whitelisted accounts having access could say a lot by digging messages into the dirt or placing blocks.
Hell, even if servers got cracked they could just hide a encrypted message a million blocks away from spawn than nobody could find unless they had the coords right Notch?
The smart ones could even use redstone and noteblocks if they really wanted to hide the messages.
