I think there are multiple possibilities to the reason why the chat would be disabled:

 

  1. It has to be disabled for law enforcement to do a complete sweep of all conversations to scan for any possible leads.

 

  1. It is to prevent access to possible prying eyes because of the event. Thus hindering uncovering interesting conversations.

 

  1. To prevent gamers from coming to the board saying they all experienced the same thing. The same thing that someone actually acted upon [FF].

 

  1. Reconcile. To prevent an avenue from all coming up with a cover. To make one account consistent with all others.
