It wasn't going to cause problems.

Any effect it would have had it still will have because the center of mass of the fragments is still on the same trajectory.

It wouldn't be pulled apart due to the Sun's gravity. It's too small compared to its distance to the Sun for tidal effects to be significant. More likely the ices flashing to vapor provided to motive force to overcome its feeble gravity.
