People tend not to connect dots themselves. Social acceptance is a very strong influence. Even if something seems suspicious, most people tend to require "proof" (social validation) before they accept certain realities or truths. The "reward" that this proof provides your brain compels you to mirror the validated truth. Your brain rewards you for accepting the socially validated truth, even if it seems counterfeit.

MSM has subverted this instinct and positioned themselves as the source of social validation. The conspiracy label weaponizes this scheme. It tells people "well you can believe that theory if you want, but you'll be a social outcast; how does your limbic system respond to that prospect?
