Devastating clip of cocky Comey admitting he broke protocol to set-up Flynn interview reemerges
In a sit-down interview with MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace hosted at the 92nd Street Y community center in Manhattan two years ago, disgraced former FBI Director James Comey made a bombshell admission that’s taken on new meaning amid just-released evidence showing that the bureau had set up Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn. Asked by Wallace to explain how two FBI agents were allowed to waltz into the White House and casually interview Flynn during the first few days of the Trump administration back in early 2017, Comey admitted it was because of him.
“I sent them … something we probably wouldn’t have done or maybe gotten away with in a more organized investigation, a more organized administration,” he said. “In the George W. Bush administration, for example, or the Obama administration … there was process, and so if the FBI wanted to send agents into the White House itself to interview a senior official, you would work through the White House Counsel and there would be discussions and approvals on who could be there. And I thought it’s early enough, so let’s just send a couple guys over.”
In short, he exploited the chaos inside the transitioning White House to pull a move that would have been inconceivable to him had anybody else but his veritable arch-nemesis, President Donald Trump, been in office.
“And so we placed a call to Flynn, said hey we’re sending a couple guys over, hope you’ll talk to them,” Comey continued. “He said sure. Nobody else was there. They interviewed him in a conference room at the White House Situation Room, and he lied to them, and that’s what he’s now pleading guilty to.” Wallace then asked him, “What did he think they were coming there for?”
And that’s when the disgraced former director openly admitted that Flynn had no idea because he’d been led to believe the interview was to be casual and off-the-record, meaning he wouldn’t even need to have his lawyer with him.
“I don’t think he knew,” Comey said. “We didn’t tell him. We just said we’re sending over a couple questions. I want to ask you a couple questions. I didn’t ask him these questions; my deputy director did. But hope you got a few minutes to talk to them. And he said sure.”
Previously uncovered evidence shows that it was indeed disgraced former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe who applied the finishing touches on this plot by convincing Flynn to sit with the bureau without an attorney present. The reemergence of this video footage comes amid the release of documents showing that FBI agents went into the Flynn interview with the purpose of getting him to lie “so we can prosecute him or get him fired.” Unsealed Wednesday by a federal judge, these documents “consist of two redacted email exchanges as well as one page of handwritten notes by an unidentified official that appeared to involve [the FBI’s] preparations for Mr. Flynn’s interview,” The Wall Street Journal reported. “In the handwritten notes, which are dated Jan. 24, 2017—the day of the Flynn interview—the author writes: ‘What is our goal? Truth/Admission or to get him to lie, so we can prosecute him or get him fired?’”
As for the email exchanges, they involved disgraced former FBI special agent Peter Strzok and disgraced former FBI attorney Lisa Page. “Page sought guidance from another official within the bureau, copying in agent Pete Strzok on an email about when and how the bureau was required to warn Mr. Flynn that lying to agents was a crime,” the Journal confirmed. In other words, the two plotted to keep the sham of a casual, off-the-record interview alive by waiting until the last minute to inform Flynn that any lies he told them would be prosecutable.
Speaking on Fox Business Network early Thursday morning, Rep. Doug Collins argued that combined, these findings prove that Comey, McCabe, Strzok and Page had an agenda far outside the bounds of their jobs. “They did have an agenda against this president, this candidate,” he said. “They went in there with motives. They were trying to deceive Gen. Flynn. They were not going to inform him, trying to basically, under the guise of something else, trap him into something else.”
