In no place and at no time was the journalistic 'profession' ever noted for integrity. The first journalist was employed by the first intelligence agency and an enduring symbiotic relationship born,

One might think of Richard Hakluyt in this connection. Hired by the Cecil dynasty of spies* (the same who employed and later eliminated Christopher Marlowe) Hakluyt's job was generate public support and enthusiasm for the exploration of America which he did, famously in "Discoverie of America and The Principall Navigations, Voiages, Traffiques and Discoueries of the English Nation.'

That book was not an accident, it was the result of Cecil's plan, the Information Operation or IO which would afford Britain control over the development of the northern hemisphere of new world.

>In accordance with the instructions of Secretary Francis Walsingham, he occupied himself chiefly in collecting information of the Spanish and French movements, and "making diligent inquirie of such things as might yield any light unto our westerne discoveries in America

>1599 became an adviser to the newly-founded East India Company

>1590s Hakluyt became the client and personal chaplain of Robert Cecil

Hakluyt prepared an English translation of Dutch jurist Hugo Grotius' Mare Liberum (1609)

Why? because

>In Mare Liberum, Grotius denied that the 1493 donation by Pope Alexander VI that had divided the oceans between Spain and Portugal entitled Spain to make territorial claims to North America. Instead, he stressed the importance of occupation, which was favourable to the English as they and not the Spanish had occupied Virginia. Grotius also argued that the seas should be freely navigable by all, which was useful since the England to Virginia route crossed seas which the Portuguese claimed

Hakluyt the puppet was used to reintroduce, collect, edit and subsequently to publish promote and popularize the maps and stories that supported the colonization of America.

Intelligence Agencies have always controlled publishing and "entertainment" businesses because by these means the economic and social future of nations is brought about.

Richard Hakluyt, the operator, is revered by spooks to this day who pay tribute by naming their organizations after him. For example "Hakluyt cyber (dot com) is a private intelligence agency whose operations today are headed by (Sir) Ian Lobban KCMG former head of UK's NSA, a nesting ball of slithery funnies known as GCHQ.

News and entertainment media have always, historically, been controlled by the spies. A measure of the spooks effectiveness today is a widely held belief that our media companies are independent entities and that CIA director William Casey was joking when he said "We will know we have succeeded when everything the American public believes is false."

Casey was referring to the comprehensive "Mockingbird" social control system which was to help Americans make complex decisions by making the issues "clearer than the truth,"

  • "The Cecil family has been one of the most powerful and influential in British society for nearly five hundred years. The man who turned it into a generations spanning dynasty is William Cecil, 1st Baron Burghley. Cecil was one of the most powerful figures within the court of Elizabeth I, serving twice as as her secretary of state, Lord Privy Seal, and Lord High Treasurer. What's more, while Francis Walsingham tends to get the credit as Elizabeth's spymaster (and the de facto founder of MI6), he ultimately worked for Cecil.. Upon Walsingham's death, Cecil firmly took over much of the Elizabethan spy networks. Naturally, Cecil also had an interest in the mystical. He bestowed patronage upon alchemy and corresponded with John Dee, among other things."
