We had to homeschool the daughter that was a scholar-athlete when her international travel schedule for competitions made regular HS impossible. It was a blessing. Life changing.
There are LOTS of options available now. For middle school, our church helped support homeschooling families by supporting offering space and logistical support for a homeschooling co-op. That's a great substitute, max flexibility for parents, low cost, gives the students interaction with other students and being taught/evaluated by an adult other than the parent.
Don't let them fear pr0n you. StudentAnon had to write the GED to meet NCAA requirements, didn't affect her ability to succeed in uni. Was recruited to Stanford, switched to Texas A&M engineering and did well - Deans List.
Again, homeschooling is a blessing and I hope many parents figure out a system that works for them and NEVER go back to the public school indoctrination system after this is all over. Game changing for future generations.
