Emerson polling conducted a study showing Biden is dropping in polls and below Trump on one lucrative measure: who the public believes will be the next President of the United States.

The question asked to voters is “regardless of who you’re voting for, who do you think will win the Presidential election?” Donald Trump received 57% while Joe Biden received 43%. Another question speaks to the enthusiasm voters have for their candidate, which generally corresponds to more votes. “Nearly half of Joe Biden voters, 45% said they were very or extremely excited to support Biden in the general election, compared to 64% of Trump voters that said they were very or extremely excited to support Trump in November” reported the Emerson College Polling.

Gallup: Trump surges to approval high, best ever OK from independents

President Trump’s roller coaster approval ratings are back to their all-time high, this time thanks to the record support of independents, a group he needs to win reelection but has struggled with.

The latest Gallup survey found that 49% of adults approve of the president’s job, up from 43% two weeks ago. Trump has never crossed 49% in the Gallup survey.

The pop came despite crushing media criticism of his fight against the coronavirus and push to reopen the economy.

But it also came as the stock market was signaling support, and many in the United States joined with his call to get the country back to work.

US Probing Texas Universities' Ties With Wuhan Lab at Centre of COVID-19 Theory, Reports Say

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The US Department of Education has asked that the University of Texas System (UT System) provide all records of gifts from or contracts with a lab in the Chinese city of Wuhan that Washington is investigating as a possible origin of the coronavirus pandemic, a letter from the department obtained by The Wall Street Journal showed.

The letter, dated 24 April, says that the UT System reported nearly $13 million worth of contracts with Chinese state-owned universities and tech giant Huawei between 6 June 2014 and 3 June 2019. The department, among other things, mentioned the UT’s Galveston National Laboratory’s "personnel exchanges focused on biosafety training" and "collaborative scientific investigations in biocontainment" with the Wuhan lab.

"It is not clear … whether UT has in fact reported all gifts from or contracts with or relating to the Wuhan MCL, the Wuhan Institute of Virology, and/or all other foreign sources, including agents and instrumentalities of the government of the Peoples’ Republic of China", the letter stated.

It, in particular, asked the group of Texas universities to share documents related to any cooperation with the Chinese Communist Party, a number of Chinese universities, and companies, including Huawei. It also sought information on the group's ties with the Wuhan lab’s researcher Shi Zhengli, who specialises on SARS-like coronaviruses of bat origin, and the CEO of US videoconferencing startup Zoom, Eric Yuan, whose service has skyrocketed during the pandemic.

Gov. Whitmer extends Michigan state of emergency

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer rebuffed efforts by the legislature to curtail her executive authority Thursday night, issuing a trio of executive orders that would put Michigan in a state of emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic through May 28.

Shortly after the majority Republican legislature declined to issue an extension of the initial state of emergency, which expires 11:59 p.m. April 30, Whitmer said the crisis isn’t over, regardless of what lawmakers believe.

“By refusing to extend the emergency and disaster declaration, Republican lawmakers are putting their heads in the sand and putting more lives and livelihoods at risk,” she said in a statement. “I’m not going to let that happen.”

The first of the three orders terminates the existing state of emergency and disaster declarations, and the second asserts that Michigan remains under a state of emergency under the Emergency Powers of the Governor Act of 1945.

The final order declares a new state of emergency and disaster under the Emergency Management Act of 1976. The new orders would run through 11:59 p.m. May 28.

The issue will almost certainly end up in court, as both the House and Senate gave its leadership the go-ahead to sue Whitmer if she continues issuing emergency executive orders after April 30.

“If she does not recognize the end of the emergency declaration, we have no other choice but to act for our constituents,” Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey, R-Clark Lake, said in a Senate floor speech Thursday evening.

Whitmer’s office also indicated she would not sign Senate Bill 858, amended legislation that laid out extension dates for certain executive orders issued by the governor. Notably, one of the provisions in the bill would allow restaurants, bars, gyms and other public-facing businesses to open May 15, albeit with some social distancing restrictions

As Business Owners Face Jail for Staying Open During Lockdown, ‘High-Risk’ Child Rapists Set Free

Orange County, CA — Over the past two months, non-violent inmates have been released from prisons across the country in an attempt to prevent massive outbreaks behind bars. Some law enforcement officials have raised concerns over releasing people in jail for marijuana possession, but they’ve largely been ignored thanks to common sense. However, law enforcement sources in New York and California are justified in their concerns as dangerous “high-risk” child rapists have been released.

The number of guards and inmates testing positive for COVID-19 continues to rise across the country — though deaths remain low. As we reported in March, it was only a matter of time before someone who is not exhibiting symptoms brings it in to one of the many prisons across the country. As the multiple cruise ship outbreaks illustrate, once the virus enters a closed space, it explodes and not just on the cruise ship.

Across the country, jails have been moving to set prisoners free. In LA county, inmates with 30 days or less on their sentences were set free. Sheriff Alex Villanueva stated that the department will also limit arrests to only dangerous suspects, decreasing the re-entry level. Also, anyone with a bail of $50,000 or less is being let out.

In New York, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said low-level offenses that don’t jeopardize public safety will not be prosecuted at all during the coronavirus outbreak. Authorities are also moving to release certain demographics from the prisons as well.

Blue States Become Laboratories of Despotism

Democratic officials are conducting dangerous experiments with your civil liberties.

Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis famously wrote that an advantage of America’s federal system of government is that a state may “serve as a laboratory; and try novel social and economic experiments without risk to the rest of the country.” In a less celebrated passage of the same opinion, Justice Brandeis acknowledged that this was a mixed blessing with the potential to produce “arbitrary, capricious, or unreasonable” actions by the states. This is where we find ourselves today. A number of Democratic governors have used the coronavirus pandemic as a pretext to “experiment” with constitutionally protected civil liberties. Their states have, in effect, become laboratories of despotism.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), for example, has refused to say when his stay-at-home order will expire, even in a purported reopen plan that that he announced last Tuesday. When asked when Golden State residents would again be able to exercise their First Amendment right to attend church, he vaguely replied, “months, not weeks.” In addition, Newsom was evidently so incensed by the number of people who went to the beach last weekend he decided to order all Orange County beaches and state parks closed to the public, effective May 1. Such decrees have provoked increased impatience with Newsom, including a rant from Elon Musk, whose Fremont Tesla factory is shut down:

Comcast Turns Their Voice-Activated Remote Into A Real-Time Tracking Device

Leave it to cable TV companies to turn voice-activated remotes into smart speaker listening devices.

Billed as a lost item finder, cable TV company Comcast will allow customers to use their Xfinity voice-activated remote to find lost stuff, like car keys and handbags.

"With your Tiles connected to the Xfinity Home app, you can use your Voice Remote to ask where your stuff is and see the last known location right on your TV."

A recent article in SlashGear revealed that Comcast has partnered with Tile to let customers use their voice activated remote to track and locate missing objects.

"Tile uses Bluetooth to ping its location, reporting back to a paired smartphone whenever that’s in range. By pairing your Tile account with your Comcast Xfinity X1 account, that location data is shared. After that, you simply press and hold the microphone button on the remote control and as for the location of a specific Tile or whatever it’s attached to."

As SlashGear explains Comcast has turned their voice-activated remote into a portable smart speaker listening device.

"All a person has to do is speak into their remote and ask a question like, Xfinity Home, find my wallet, or Xfinity Home, locate my saxophone. The system will recognize keywords like find, locate, or where as trigger phrases for the Tile integration, and the command has to include the actual name of the Tile as it’s registered in the app."

But what Comcast leaves out is how they have turned television remotes into a warped version of Amazon's Alexa smart speaker, which is always on and listening for keywords or phrases.

It seems like private corporations are masters at obscuring what smart listening devices are really doing.

Leading Cancer Treatment Center Admits to Antitrust Crime and Agrees to Pay $100 Million Criminal Penalty

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute LLC (FCS), an oncology group headquartered in Fort Myers, Florida, was charged with conspiring to allocate medical and radiation oncology treatments for cancer patients in Southwest Florida, the Department of Justice announced. This charge is the first in the department’s ongoing investigation into market allocation in the oncology industry.

According to a one-count felony charge filed today in the U.S. District Court in Fort Myers, Florida, FCS participated in a criminal antitrust conspiracy with a competing oncology group in Collier, Lee, and Charlotte counties (Southwest Florida). FCS and its co-conspirators agreed not to compete to provide chemotherapy and radiation treatments to cancer patients in Southwest Florida. Beginning as early as 1999 and continuing until at least 2016, FCS entered into an illegal agreement that allocated chemotherapy treatments to FCS and radiation treatments to a competing oncology group. This conspiracy allowed FCS to operate with minimal competition in Southwest Florida and limited valuable integrated care options and choices for cancer patients.

The Antitrust Division also announced a deferred prosecution agreement (DPA) resolving the charge against FCS, under which the company admitted to conspiring to allocate chemotherapy and radiation treatments for cancer patients. FCS has agreed to pay a $100 million criminal penalty —the statutory maximum— and to cooperate fully with the Antitrust Division’s ongoing investigation. FCS has also agreed to maintain an effective compliance program designed to prevent and detect criminal antitrust violations.
