White House blocks Fauci from testifying before Congress, claims it would be ‘counterproductive’

The White House has blocked Dr. Anthony Fauci from testifying before a House subcommittee next week, but promised to offer testimony “at the appropriate time.”

A House Appropriations Committee spokesman also confirmed that the White House had prevented Fauci from testifying as a witness during a subcommittee hearing on the COVID-19 response scheduled for next week.

The White House called such a testimony “counterproductive” in the heat of the pandemic.

“While the Trump Administration continues its whole-of-government response to COVID-19, including safely opening up America again and expediting vaccine development, it is counter-productive to have the very individuals involved in those efforts appearing at Congressional hearings,” White House spokesperson Judd Deere said in a statement. "We are committed to working with Congress to offer testimony at the appropriate time.”

However, a senior administration official told the Washington Post Fauci is scheduled to appear at a Senate hearing the following week about testing.

“It’s not muzzling, it’s not blocking, it’s simply trying to ensure we’re able to balance the need for oversight, the legitimate need for oversight, with their responsibilities to handle COVID-19 work at their respective agencies and departments,” said the official.

Officials: Even Under Best Case Scenario, D.C. May Not Reopen for 2-3 Months

Washington, DC, has not met the federal guidelines criteria for reopening after officials shut the nation’s capital down due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the city’s Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) said this week.

“We want to get back to a new normal and not just the way things were,” Dr. LaQuandra Nesbitt, the director of the D.C. Department of Health, told reporters during a virtual town hall on Wednesday, without elaborating further.

Federal Appeals Court May Have Just Handed Trump 2020

A federal appeals court ruled Wednesday that Kansas can’t require voters to provide proof of citizenship when they register to vote.

The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a permanent injunction issued by U.S. District Judge Julia Robinson in 2018 and found that Kansas’s requirement to provide identification when registering to vote violates the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment as well as the National Voter Registration Act.

The law required Kansans who were registering to vote to provide documents proving their U.S. citizenship, such as a birth certificate or a passport.

Kansas argued that it has an interest in protecting election integrity by preventing voter fraud and that providing proof of citizenship is not a significant burden on voters. The court agreed that Kansas had a legitimate interest in protecting election integrity but found that the 67 instances of voter fraud since 1999 did not justify the burden placed on Kansans.

President of Harvard calls university's decision making surrounding Epstein donations 'principled'

Epstein was continually admitted to the university as a visiting fellow despite lacking the academic qualifications for the position.

Of the $9.1 million in gifts from Epstein, the university is still in possession of $200,937 in unspent funds, which they plan on donating to “My Life My Choice,” and “Girls Educational & Mentoring Services,” two organizations that support victims of human trafficking and sexual assault. “Harvard is proud to support their important and valuable work,” wrote Bacow.

Whitmer just shot herself in the foot…

Whitmer, possible Biden VP pick and a rape survivor, says ‘women should be able to tell their stories’

During the conversation, Whitmer said she was “a survivor myself.”

Whitmer, 48, who became Michigan’s governor in January 2019, has previously spoken publicly of being sexually assaulted in 1989 while she was a student at Michigan State University.

“Over 20 years ago, I was a victim of rape and, thank God, it didn’t result in a pregnancy from an attacker,” the Democrat said in 2013, while speaking out against a Republican-backed anti-abortion bill when she was a state senator. “As a mother with two girls, the thought that they would ever go through something like I did keeps me up at night.”

Fake News Winning

Minnesota NBC station fires weatherman after repost slamming ‘reopen’ protesters as Nazi sympathizers

An NBC affiliate station in Minnesota confirmed Friday that it has parted ways with a staff meteorologist, citing “continued violations” of the station’s “news ethics” and other policies.

KARE-TV of Minneapolis did not specify exactly why Sven Sundgaard was dismissed but he recently drew reaction from the public after reposting a local rabbi’s online message regarding crowds protesting against coronavirus lockdowns.

That message, attributed to Rabbi Michael Adam Latz, had described groups protesting against lockdown measures as “white nationalist Nazi sympathizer gun fetishist miscreants,” according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Within two hours of KARE confirming Sundgaard’s firing on Facebook, more than 3,300 viewers responded, with many commending the station’s decision, the Star Tribune of Minneapolis reported.

KARE 11: Due to continued violations of KARE11’s news ethics and other policies, we have made the decision to part ways with Sven Sundgaard.

We hope you continue to turn to KARE 11 for your news, traffic, weather and more.
