Hillary ditches pantsuits for Covid face-mask with a message, is immediately MEMED to death with reminders of scandals

Hillary Clinton took to Twitter to show off her new facemask wardrobe in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic with a political message attached, but the pic quickly became easy cannon fodder for hungry meme-creating trolls.

“No makeup? No pantsuit? No problem,” Clinton tweeted on Saturday. “I’ve got the must-have accessory for spring.”

She then included a photo of her with her arms crossed donning a black facemask with the words “VOTE” written on it.

Unfortunately for the failed presidential candidate, the large black cloth mask has proven an irresistible target for meme-crafters online, who used it to photoshop their own messages instead. Those ranged from “Wisconsin” and “WNBP [will never be president]” – reminders of Clinton’s embarrassing loss to Donald Trump in 2016 – to “Epstein didn’t kill himself” – a nod to conspiracy theories surrounding the death of Jeffrey Epstein, who carried numerous connections to the Clintons while he was alive.

For others, the size of the mask has triggered flashbacks to movie villains like Bane from ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and Hannibal Lecter from ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ – rather than served as a reminder to help stop the spread of Covid-19.

“Since when are they allowing people to wear masks in mug shots?” radio show host Eric Harley added.

“PPE shouldn’t be a fashion accessory nor a political prop,” one unusually serious comment added.

Venezuelan prison riot leaves at least 46 dead, 60 injured - lawmaker, NGO

CARACAS (Reuters) - A prison riot in the western Venezuelan state of Portuguesa has left at least 46 people dead and 60 injured, according to a rights group and an opposition lawmaker.

Beatriz Giron, director of the Venezuelan Observatory of Prisons which advocates for inmates’ rights, said 46 bodies had been identified after the incident on Friday at the Los Llanos penitentiary. The South American country’s prisons are infamous for extreme levels of violence and poor conditions.

The country’s prisons minister, Iris Varela, told local newspaper Ultimas Noticias on Friday that the incident resulted from an escape attempt and that the prison director had been shot and wounded. She did not give a death toll, and Venezuela’s information ministry did not respond to a request for comment.

Maria Beatriz Martinez, an opposition lawmaker from Portuguesa, said the riot followed came after a ban on inmates’ family members bringing them food during visitation, which is common in Venezuelan prisons. The visitation restrictions are part of the country’s effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in its overcrowded prisons.

Such restrictions have prompted riots in prisons in several countries, including Italy. In Argentina, prisoners rioted last month demanding some inmates be freed due to fears of infection.

McConnell, Pelosi Release Joint Statement Declining Testing Capabilities On Capitol Hill

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Saturday released a joint statement saying they will decline the White House’s offer to test members for coronavirus.

“Congress is grateful for the Administration’s generous offer to deploy rapid COVID-19 testing capabilities to Capitol Hill, but we respectfully decline the offer at this time. Our country’s testing capacities are continuing to scale up nationwide and Congress wants to keep directing resources to the front-line facilities where they can do the most good the most quickly,” McConnell and Pelosi said in a joint statement.

“Consistent with CDC guidelines, Congress will use the current testing protocols that the Office of the Attending Physician has put in place until these speedier technologies become more widely available,” the two continued.

McConnell released a statement Friday saying the Senate will be in session Monday, as planned, after new guidance from the Office of the Attending Physician.

This comes as Democratic leadership on Tuesday canceled the House’s plans to return back to Washington, D.C., next week, just one day after Democrats made the announcement. According to House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, the Capitol physician advised them not to return as well amid a rise in coronavirus cases in the Washington area.

“We made a judgment that we will not come back next week but that we hope to come back very soon,” Hoyer said.

The Senate now hopes to work together with the White House on passing new legislation to help combat the coronavirus and help American workers struggling across the country.
