Funny how the Doc in the family has said many times that the people who start having health problems early (early 50's) are strict vegetarians. We have canines set deep in our jaws for a reason. They are for tearing meat. We are not vegetarians. We are omnivorous, and healthiest that way.

I know. Emotions. Not science.

Yesterday, I took a rooster I bought on March 11th as a 4 inch chick, put it in a killing cone we hung on a tree trunk, drained the blood and watched it drift off to sleep. I scalded the feathers in a pot of hot water over a turkey roaster burner, popped it in a big round electric chicken plucker we have on the farm for just this reason.

(I hate plucking feathers).

Feathers were gone in 90 seconds.

(I love feather pluckers)

My better half gutted the bird clean. Brought it up to the kitchen whole, where I had pre-heated the oven. I cleaned the bird, weighed it on the kitchen scale at 6 lbs, 5 oz. It looked just like it came out of the supermarket plastic, but small turkey size.

I seasoned my chicken, baked it for almost 2 hours, and had it for dinner with baked potato's and gravy.

While I was doing this, the better half did two more roosters. The five hens get another two weeks to grow, as it takes them a bit longer to mature.

I know what that bird ate every day, because I fed it good food , every day.

Clean eating by growing as much food as you can on your own is best, and this goes for the garden too.
