Open Illinois Rally on May Day in Chicago versus the Communist May Day Rally

Illinois Governer J. B. Pritzker has the state in lockdown and businesses shut down until the end of May.

An Illinois legislator last Wednesday filed a second legal challenge to Pritzker saying the Democrat governor’s emergency powers are limited to 30 days and that Pritzker therefore had no right to extend his March 21 order through the end of May.

But not all Illinois residents are equal.

Governor Pritzker recently sent his wife and kids to Florida during the state stay-at-home orders.

When confronted on his family’s Florida trip Pritzker told the reporter, “In politics it used to be we kept our families out of it. Yeah, my official duties have nothing to do with my family. So, I’m just not going to answer that question.”

On Friday protesters gathered in Chicago for an Open Illinois protest.

At the same time the communists came out for the annual May Day protests.

Berlin Hostel Allegedly Owned by North Korea to Close 'Permanently' After Order From German Court

The North Korean government is rumoured to have a network of fronts across Europe which syphon funds to the government from unknowing customers. Any business secretly serving as a cash cow for Pyongyang is said by US and German authorities to be a violation of international sanctions.

A hostel in Berlin that is believed to be owned by North Korea is set to be shut down permanently due to a German court decision in January.

A drab building in the heart of Berlin, now closed because of coronavirus, appears just like any other building in a European city. For about $30 a night, visitors are invited to see why "so many travelers make Berlin's City Hostel" their choice.

Despite externally looking like any other hostel, the Berlin City Hostel is allegedly owned by the North Korean government and funnels about $41,000 a month to Pyongyang.

"Our goal is to get this hotel, this youth hostel to shut down because it is inappropriate for the North Koreans to collect money in Berlin when there are sanctions on the regime via the UN", Richard Grenell, the U.S. ambassador to Germany and acting director of national intelligence, told Fox News earlier this year.

"The reality is the North Korean government has been doing this for a long time and if not for governments to stand up, and specifically the Trump administration to stand up and say: 'this is a violation, it shouldn't happen,' these types of businesses just continue”, he added.

Grenell claims that the hotel is in violation of UN sanctions against North Korea, which prevent countries from engaging in trade with the country.

Pressure has also been mounted by the German government, as well as the parents of Otto Warmbier, the college student who died when he was returned by North Korea to the US after being detained by the state.

Pyongyang allegedly leases the building to German management company EGI GmbH for day to day operations and management. While the firm was not available, according to Fox News, German media has claimed that the company says it has stopped giving money to the North Korean government since April 2017, so it no longer acting in violation of international sanctions.

A judge ordered the hostel closed in January with the agreement of the German government.

A spokesman for Germany's Federal Foreign Office said that the country is “committed to full sanctions implementation against North Korea" while speaking to Fox News.

“Berlin state authorities have ordered the closure of the City Hostel. The operators are challenging this order in court,” the spokesperson said.

“A Berlin regional court has confirmed the order on Jan 28. We expect the order to be implemented once the court ruling takes legal force."

According to a report last year by German publication Süddeutsche Zeitung and public broadcasters NDR and WDR, the embassy, to which the hostel was once connected, blocked attempts by the court to cancel the contract.

Authorities suspect the Berlin property is one of several commercial enterprises in Europe that are owned by North Korea and are investigating other properties.

Pope says any coronavirus vaccine must be shared worldwide

VATICAN CITY — Pope Francis called on Sunday for international scientific cooperation to discover a vaccine for the coronavirus and said any successful vaccine should be made available around the world.

Francis, who has been delivering his Sunday address from the papal library instead of St. Peter's Square because of the lockdown in Italy, thanked all those around the world who were providing essential services.

He encouraged international cooperation to deal with the crisis and combat the virus, which has infected nearly 3.5 million people and killed more than 240,000 people worldwide.

"In fact, it is important to unite scientific capabilities, in a transparent and impartial way to find vaccines and treatments," he said.

Francis said it was also important to "guarantee universal access to essential technologies that allow each infected person, in every part of the world, to receive the necessary medical treatment."

World leaders pledged in April to accelerate work on tests, drugs and vaccines against COVID-19 and to share them around the globe, but the United States did not take part in the launch of the World Health Organization (WHO) initiative.

US President Donald Trump has said the WHO was slow to react to the outbreak and was being "China-centric," and as a consequence has announced a suspension of funding. The WHO has defended its handling of the crisis.

A number of pharmaceutical companies around the world have developed tests to identify antibodies that develop after somebody has come into contact with the virus.

The Trump administration is planning to speed up development of a coronavirus vaccine with the goal of having 100 million doses ready by the end of 2020, according to a senior US administration official.

Most experts have suggested clinical trials to guarantee a vaccine is safe and effective could take a minimum of 12 to 18 months.

On Sunday, the pope also backed a proposal by an inter-religious group known as the Higher Committee on Human Fraternity for an international day of prayer and fasting on May 14 to ask God to help humanity overcome the pandemic. — Reuters

With fears of meat shortages on the rise during the COVID-19 pandemic, more Americans are hunting

Game and fish agencies across the U.S. have seen an increase in hunting licenses.

As the coronavirus pandemic causes increased risks of the U.S. food supply to breaking down and fears of meat shortages rising, more Americans are turning to hunting to provide their own source of food.

Game and fish agencies across the nation have seen increased interest in hunting licenses. In Vermont, resident fishing license sales are up by more than 50% over this time last year, according to VTDigger.

The turkey hunting season starts this Friday, and turkey hunting licenses are already up 26%. Hunting and fishing license sales have increased by almost a quarter, which is a reversal of recent years that saw a decline in hunting licenses in every county in Vermont. The U.S. saw a 255,000 drop in the number of hunters between 2016 and 2020, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service license data.

As of April 20, the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department sold around 17,000 fishing licenses for the year, compared to 11,700 the same time last year.

Chris Saunders, project coordinator for Vermont's Department of Fish and Wildlife, said, "It's never been quite like this."

"For some people, if they're out of work, putting some fish in the freezer or some turkey in the freezer can be valuable," Matt Breton, president of the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Conservation Group, said.

In the first week of its turkey hunting season, Indiana experienced a 28% jump in turkey license sales.

Georgia saw a 47% increase in turkey hunters in wildlife management areas this year compared to 2019. In the first 23 days of Georgia's turkey hunting season, there was a 26% increase in turkeys killed despite no rise in the turkey population, according to Reuters.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife received 14,738 more applications for its annual big game draw versus 2019.

New Mexico Department of Game and Fish said they received 220,000 applications for the big-game draw this year, compared to approximately 11,000 in 2019.

"People are starting to consider self-reliance and where their food comes from," said Hank Forester of Quality Deer Management Association.

In Florida, applications for commercial fishing licenses have skyrocketed. However, authorities believe that people are using the fishing licenses as a loophole. In the counties of Palm Beach, Martin, and Broward, there were 532 applications compared to a total of seven commercial fishing license applications in 2019.

During the coronavirus pandemic, Florida closed boat ramps at state-owned facilities except for commercial fishermen. People were trying to use the license as a loophole.

"It is such a substantial increase that it would lead me to believe that people are using it as a loophole," Martin County Sheriff William Snyder said. "They're gaming the system. They're buying these licenses and pretending to be commercial fishermen."

City Passes Ominous Ordinance that Could Land People in Jail for Filming the Police

Frequent readers of the Free Thought Project know that filming the cops is not a crime. Despite this being a widely known provision — held up with multiple court precedents — cops continue to violate the First Amendment protected right of citizens to film the police. Now, an entire city is going after people who wish to film police and it is nothing short of tyrannical.

A report from Tuscon.com claims a new ordinance was passed to deter “cop-haters” but in reality tramples the First Amendment. According to the new legislation, ORDINANCE NO. _11746:

A. Police officers or Community Service Officers conducting enforcement activity, investigations, and other police-related activities may restrict

2 individuals from physically entering crime scenes or areas immediately surrounding where such enforcement activity, investigations, and other police-related activities are taking place. Police Officers or Community Service Officers may establish the boundaries of a restricted area by using physical barriers, placing visual markers like caution tape, or expressly communicating that an area is temporarily restricted for police activity.

B. If a Police Officer or Community Service Officer has established a restricted area, it shall be unlawful for any person to enter the restricted area without a Police Officer’s or Community Service Officer’s express permission to enter; or to refuse to comply with a Police Officer’s or Community Service Officer’s request or direction to leave the restricted area.
