FBI Documents Hint at Israeli Collusion with 2016 Trump Campaign

Previously sealed FBI documents indicate close contacts between Israel and the Trump campaign and that the Mueller investigation found evidence of Israeli involvement, but largely redacted it.

Menifee, CA (IAK) — Newly released FBI documents suggest that Israeli government officials were in contact with the 2016 Trump presidential campaign and offered “critical intel.”

In one of the extensively redacted documents, an official who appears to be an Israeli minister warns that Trump was “going to be defeated unless we intervene.” He goes on to tell a Trump campaign official: “The key is in your hands.”

The previously classified documents were released in response to a lawsuit brought by the Associated Press, CNN, the New York Times, Politico, and the Washington Post. The unsealed documents suggest that rather than Russia, it was Israel that covertly interfered in the election.

While all these media companies except one seem to have ignored the apparent Israeli connection revealed in the FBI documents, Israeli media have been quick to jump on it.

Israel’s i24 News reports:

Newly released documents from the FBI suggest that Roger Stone, a senior aide in the 2016 Trump campaign, had one or more high-ranking contacts in the Israeli government willing to help the then-Republican Party nominee win the presidential election.”

Israel’s Ha’aretz newspaper reports:

Tantalizing hints” of “alleged clandestine contacts came to light in recent publication of redacted FBI documents.”

The Times of Israel (TOI) the first to report on this, states:

The FBI material, which is heavily redacted, includes one explicit reference to Israel and one to Jerusalem, and a series of references to a minister, a cabinet minister, a minister without portfolio in the cabinet dealing with issues concerning defense and foreign affairs,’ the PM, and the Prime Minister.”

TOI points out: “Benjamin Netanyahu was Israel’s prime minister in 2016,” and reports circumstantial evidence that the “PM” mentioned in the document refers to Netanyahu:

One reference to the unnamed PM in the material reads as follows: ‘On or about June 28, 2016, [NAME REDACTED] messaged STONE, “RETURNING TO DC AFTER URGENT CONSULTATIONS WITH PM IN ROME.MUST MEET WITH YOU WED. EVE AND WITH DJ TRUMP THURSDAY IN NYC.’ Netanyahu made a state visit to Italy at the end of June 2016.”

TOI also notes that “the Israeli government included a minister without portfolio, Tzachi Hanegbi, appointed in May with responsibility for defense and foreign affairs.”

Ha’aretz also names Hanebi as the likely contact, and confirms that he “was in the United States on the dates mentioned, attending, among other things, a roll out of the first Israeli F-35 jet at a Lockheed Martin plant in Fort Worth, Texas.”

In his years running Wikileaks, founder Julian Assange published information that exposed corruption and malfeasance by a wide variety of actors, including the U.S. government. He is now in prison in Britain for this “crime,” his health steadily deteriorating under conditions that have been called torture.

It is unclear to what degree Wikileaks’ revelations played a role in Trump’s win.

The U.S. media largely avoided the information Wikileaks exposed, and instead focused on allegations of a supposed Russian connection.

The fact is that Hillary had grown increasingly unpopular, failed to connect with many working Americans, and voters have become increasingly anti-establishment and displeased with the extremely costly and tragic military actions she favored.

However, even if Wikileaks was a minor factor, there is no doubt that its exposés were unfavorable for the Clintons and the Democratic establishment. Therefore, it is interesting to see that even with Republican Donald Trump in office, the U.S. government continues to pursue Assange. Perhaps future leaks will clarify what or who is driving this.

GOP leader disagrees with Pelosi, McConnell on WH testing offer

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Monday said he disagrees with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) decision to reject the Trump administration’s offer to provide rapid coronavirus testing.

McCarthy said having the White House’s help could get Congress safely back to work amid the pandemic.

“I do disagree about the testing,” McCarthy said during a virtual interview with Politico.

He described the Capitol as a “mini city” and suggested the rapid tests would help lawmakers be prepared for new outbreaks of the virus.

McCarthy argued that rapid testing would help quarantine people who have contracted the virus but also allow committee hearings and votes to move forward.

“I do not think it would be wrong to have one of the Abbott tests where you can have a quick response, especially if there was some type of outbreak you can quarantine those individuals you can test the others and you could have government keep working,” he said.

He also said he wanted to make sure the press were available to cover hearings and that the rapid tests could help.

“I would say that the interaction from the press, because the public is not able to be in these meetings, I want to make sure everybody is able to see them. So it's even more critical about the press, I want to make sure they would be treated almost like members and be into those meetings, to be able to cover them as well, and they should be tested. That's very doable and that's less probably than 100 tests,” he said.

McConnell and Pelosi on Saturday released a statement declining the White House’s offer, saying they preferred that resources go “to the front-line facilities where they can do the most good the most quickly.”

McCarthy has been vocal in his calls for the House to be called back into session, making the case that lawmakers should be treated as essential workers. House Democratic leadership decided against bringing back members to Washington this week, determining it would but members and staff at too much risk giving rising case numbers in Washington, D.C.

The Senate is returning to work this week.

McCarthy, House Rules Committee ranking member Tom Cole (R-Okla.) and House Administration Committee ranking member Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) published an op-ed on Monday laying out a plan to reopen Congress.

The group of GOP lawmakers argued that lawmakers could gradually return to work though the use of social distancing, as well as wearing masks and other protective gear.

Trump says US intelligence did not warn him about threat of COVID-19 until late January

Earlier, The Washington Post reported that US intelligence had repeatedly informed Trump about the threat of the virus

WASHINGTON, May 4. /TASS/. Reports claiming that US intelligence first warned US President Donald Trump about the danger of the novel coronavirus in early January are false, Trump said on Sunday on Twitter.

"Intelligence has just reported to me that I was correct, and that they did NOT bring up the CoronaVirus subject matter until late into January, just prior to my banning China from the U.S. Also, they only spoke of the Virus in a very non-threatening, or matter of fact, manner," Trump wrote. "Fake News got it wrong again, as always, and tens of thousands of lives were saved by my EARLY BAN of China into our Country. The people that we’re allowed were heavily scrutinized and tested U.S. citizens, and as such, I welcome them with open arms!" he continued.

Earlier, The Washington Post reported that US intelligence had repeatedly informed Trump about the threat of the virus, with the first such message sent to the US administration as early as January 3.

In late December 2019, Chinese officials notified the World Health Organization (WHO) about the outbreak of a previously unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan, in central China. Since then, cases of the novel coronavirus - named COVID-19 by the WHO - have been reported in every corner of the globe, including Russia.

According to the latest statistics, over 3,400,000 people have been infected worldwide and more than 240,000 deaths have been reported. According to Johns Hopkins University, there are over 1.15 mln COVID-19 cases in the USA, with over 67,000 people dead.

Intel buys Israeli smart-transit startup Moovit for $900 million in bid for data

Moovit’s app provides real-time information about public transportation schedules; acquisition will help Intel’s Mobileye become a complete mobility provider

US tech giant Intel Corp. on Monday said it has acquired Israel’s smart-transit startup Moovit for some $900 million.

The acquisition will help another Israeli firm acquired by Intel, Mobileye, to achieve its aim of becoming a complete mobility provider, including offering robotaxi services, Intel said in a statement. Intel bought Mobileye in 2017 for a massive $15.3 billion, the largest ever acquisition in Israel.

Moovit, a free, crowdsourced application that provides real-time information about public transportation schedules, is used by 800 million riders across in 3,100 cities across 102 countries, the statement said. Moovit combines information from public transit operators and authorities with live information from the user community to offer travelers a real-time picture of the best route for their journey.

He has served in the US embassies in Iraq and chargé d’affaires in Libya under Obama. Seymour M. Hersh wrote about the US Embassy in Libya and its role in arming the terrorists used by the US in Syria. For the past several years, he has been based in Northeast Syria and managing the Kurds.

Roebuck designed the 2011 “Arab Spring” in Syria

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange revealed a plan concocted by William Roebuck, the former US Ambassador to Syria. Wikileaks published US diplomatic cables, and chapter 10 of “The Wikileaks Files” concerns Roebuck’s cable sent on December 13, 2006. Ambassador Roebuck wrote that the US should take action to try to destabilize the Syrian government by provoking it to overreact, both internally and externally. That plan was put into action in March 2011 at Deraa, where armed terrorists were interspersed among unarmed civilians in street protests. The terrorists were provoking the police and security forces by shooting at them, as well as shooting unarmed civilians which were blamed on the security forces.

The cables prove that ‘regime change’ had been the goal of US policy in Syria since 2006 and that the US promoted sectarianism in support of its policy, which built the foundation for the sectarian conflict which resulted in massive bloodshed. Roebuck advocated for exploiting Syria’s relationship with Iran, which makes Syria vulnerable to Israeli airstrikes. Roebuck advised that the US should destabilize the Syrian government by promoting sectarian divisions between Sunni and Shia, which at the time was not an issue in Syria, which is a secular government and a tolerant society. By promoting sectarian conflict, which he had observed in the oil-rich Arab Gulf monarchies, Roebuck was crafting the destruction of Syrian society. The ultimate US goal in Syria was to destabilize the Syrian government by violent means, resulting in a change of government, and the new government would be pro-Israeli, and anti-Iranian.

NYPD Union Says Officers Should Stop Enforcing Social Distancing Order, Calls City Leaders ‘Cowards’

The Police Benevolent Association of the City of New York (NYCPBA) has called for officers to stop enforcing social distancing orders, saying that politicians have left them hanging to deal with the backlash on their own.

The union called city leaders “cowards” who have left the police to “fend for themselves.”

“The NYPD needs to get cops out of the social distancing enforcement business altogether,” PBA President Patrick Lynch said in a statement. “The cowards who run this city have given us nothing but vague guidelines and mixed messages, leaving the cops on the street corners to fend for ourselves.”

Lynch also blasted politicians for releasing real criminals while discouraging them from properly doing their jobs to enforce laws against things like fare evasion.

“Meanwhile, those same politicians are still watering down our laws, releasing real criminals and discouraging proactive enforcement of fare evasion and quality of life issues,” Lynch said.

ADL Threatens Steam For Not Censoring Gamers' Speech, Pressures Companies to Sever Ties

In a newly released report, the Anti-Defamation League defamed Valve Corporation's Steam as a platform full of violent "extremists" and pushed for gaming companies to sever ties because they're not doing enough to censor their users and suppress free speech.

Steam is one of the few gaming companies which has historically mostly defended free speech and avoided heavy-handed censorship.

The ADL, which has become the leading pro-censorship organization in America under CEO Jonathan Greenblatt, has been targeting Steam for over a month with not-so-subtle threats to try and get them to cave on free speech and just last week published a report claiming Steam is a "platform" full of "extremists" where white supremacists "can openly express … calls for violence."

Steam's official rules specifically forbid threatening and abusive speech as well as speech which "otherwise violate[s] the legal rights" of others.

Here's an excerpt from their defamatory report titled, "This is Not a Game: How Steam Harbors Extremists":

Steam, the largest and most important online store for PC gamers with over $4 Billion in revenue in 2017, has recently gained popularity among white supremacists for being a platform, like Gab and Telegram, where they can openly express their ideology and calls for violence.

The difference between Steam and social media platforms like Telegram or Gab is that while the latter do not share a formal business relationship with the wider social media industry, Steam has direct and lucrative relationships with most major game companies, including 2K, Electronic Arts, Xbox Game Studios, Ubisoft and others. Many of these game companies have made public statements about and dedicated significant resources towards keeping their products safe from the kinds of hateful ideologies espoused by extremists – while continuing to work with Steam.

Note: the ADL clearly feels Steam is going to defend their users' speech and so they're threatening to damage their business relationships to try and force them to submit.

This appears to be a clear cut case of tortious inference.

The ADL similarly threatened the entire country of Iceland after they moved to institute a ban on male child genital mutilation by suggesting they would use their close media relationships to smear their island nation as being "associated with Nazism" to damage their tourism industry.

ProPublica: Millions of Vote-by-Mail Ballots Aren't 'Missing' — They're Just 'Most Likely in Landfills'

Last week I wrote about a new constellation of leftist philanthropy trying to influence the rules of the 2020 election, including pushing vote-by-mail, paying reporters to deny that voter fraud exists, and lobbying Congress to federalize state power over elections. Less than 24 hours later, I saw these dollars in action – through a smear by the propagandists at ProPublica.

ProPublica is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) posing as a newsroom. It is the new model in a changing media landscape, where groups like George Soros’ Foundation to Promote Open Society give ProPublica hundreds of thousands of dollars and ProPublica does what the funders ask.

It should be no surprise that ProPublica is tasked with attacking anyone who reports on voter fraud or election security vulnerabilities but sometimes it rises to the level of parody.

A few weeks ago, my organization reported that federal data published by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission revealed a terrible problem with vote-by-mail. It turns out that tens of millions of ballots went missing, were rejected, went to the wrong address, and ultimately were never counted as valid votes.

Reporting on millions of ballots that were mailed out but never counted as valid votes is too much for ProPublica’s donor masters. So this weekend, Derek Willis of ProPublica penned a ham-handed attack on the revelation.

Willis responded to the report by arguing that these millions of ballots were in fact not “missing!” He insinuated that the whole kerfuffle of millions of mail ballots not ever coming back and getting counted was all cooked up.

The report describes as “missing” all mail ballots that were delivered to a valid address but not returned to be counted. In a statement accompanying the report, Adams said that unaccounted-for ballots “represent 28 million opportunities for someone to cheat.” In particular, the organization argues that the number of unreturned ballots would grow if more states adopt voting by mail.

Enter ProPublica’s source, Professor Paul Gronke from Reed College.

Gronke said the ballots weren’t really missing, they were “most likely in landfills.”

Seriously.

Jimmy Hoffa isn’t missing. He’s probably in a block of cement under a parking lot.

As the COVID-19 pandemic progressed, Americans heard increasing calls for an emergency transformation to all-mail voting in 2020. But to learn that since November 2012, 28 million ballots went missing or could not be “tracked” by the election officials who put them in the mail, well that’s a game-changer for mail ballot proposals.

These US entities partnered with the Wuhan Institute of Virology — time for a criminal investigation?

The Wuhan Institute of Virology from which the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) is believed to have “escaped” has a number of questionable partnerships that are worth looking into in light of the pandemic.

Most of them are universities, including the University of Alabama, the University of North Texas, and Harvard University. There is also the EcoHealth Alliance, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the National Wildlife Federation.

While the relationships between these entities and the Wuhan Institute of Virology may be completely innocent, there is no way to really say for sure without a proper investigation. And this is exactly what Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is calling for, as is the nation of Australia.

Pompeo and the folks down under, along with millions of Americans, would really like to know the true origins of the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19). An increasing number of people simply are not buying the narrative that the novel virus originated in bat soup at a Chinese wet market, and this even includes mainstream media outlets like Fox News.

The only way to really determine what was going on at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, and who else might have been involved. is to open the place up for an international investigation. But communist China is against this, of course, accusing Australia of “petty tricks” and collusion with the United States.

“Overnight, I saw comments from the Chinese Foreign Ministry talking about a course of activity with respect to Australia who had the temerity to ask for investigation,” Pompeo is quoted as saying in response to China’s aggression against a proposed investigation.

“Who in the world wouldn’t want an investigation of how this happened to the world?” he added.

As the U.S. aims to get back on track economically speaking, Pompeo believes that now is the time to hold communist China, the Wuhan Institute of Virology, and whoever else may have been involved accountable for unleashing this pandemic on the world.

“Not only American wealth, but the global economy’s devastation as a result of this virus,” Pompeo further stated. “There will be a time for this. We will get that timing right.”

Sara Carter: ‘Nothing is gonna come back unless people start reopening their businesses’

Sara A. Carter joined Fox News host Steve Hilton on Sunday’s airing of “The Next Revolution” to explain the need for the American economy to reopen as the country continues to slow the spread of the coronavirus. What needs to happen, she said, is businesses have to be allowed to reopen.

“He understands the suffering of the families that have been through COVID-19. He understands it because he’s had friends who have been affected by it directly. But he also understands the pulse of the country. And what makes him so remarkable is that he gives Americans the right to have common sense,” Carter explained reacting to President Donald Trump’s earlier town hall on Fox News.

During the earlier interview, Trump recognized the need to reopen the American economy with certain safety and public health measures in place. “At some point we have to reopen our country and people are going to be safe,” Trump said.

Carter added, “I mean he says, look, if you’re over 60, I understand if you don’t want to expose yourself. You can stay at home, you can stay from work until we get a better handle on this. But the American business owner, the small business… We could do all the bailouts we want, Steve. We can push for more and more money, we can see unemployment surge and we can give people checks, but nothing is gonna come back unless people start reopening their businesses, putting people back to work.”

Since mid-March, over 30 million Americans have filed for unemployment insurance. More than 3.83 million of those claims were filed last week.

Cults and Bioterrorism: A Toxic Duo

Far right-wingers in the United States and other countries are pushing the propaganda line that China was somehow involved in the creation or spread of the Covid-19 virus, formally known as SARS [Severe acute respiratory syndrome]-CoV-2, to the rest of the world either deliberately or from an accidental release from the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Although nation-states have, over the decades, conducted research on and produced biological warfare weapons, there is no recent documented proof of a government being engaged in the widespread release of a biological warfare agent to cause maximum deaths. The 1972 Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, and Stockpiling of Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxin Weapons and on their Destruction, the short name of which is the Biological Warfare Convention, bans the production or release of bio-weapons as well as mandates the destruction of existing stockpiles.

The People’s Republic of China acceded to the Biological Warfare Convention on November 15, 1984. China has experienced a horrifying history of being victimized by biological warfare. The Imperial Japanese Army’s Unit 731 was responsible for spawning bubonic plague among the Chinese population by spreading plague-infected fleas over Chinese cities from low-flying aircraft. Typhoid and paratyphoid was spread throughout the city of Nanking by Unit 731 by introducing typhus germs into well water and food. A Japanese bio-war attack on Changda infected more than 10,000 people with cholera. Unit 731 also introduced smallpox, botulism, dysentery, and anthrax on to unsuspecting Chinese civilian populations. Those who now accuse the Chinese government of developing Covid-19 as a weapon have neither an appreciation for recent Chinese history nor an understanding of how China was victimized by biological warfare during World War II.

Although there is no recent history of nation-states propagating a biological warfare attack – the allegations by U.S. and British intelligence about Saddam Hussein possessing a bio-warfare capability turned out to be bogus – there is a history of dangerous religious cults being involved in preparing for or carrying out biological warfare attacks.

Since the 1970s, there have been several cases of religious cults either dabbling in biological warfare research or engaged in deploying it. The cults involved include the Japanese Aum Shinrikyo movement, the Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh cult, the “People’s Temple” of Reverend Jim Jones, and the one that requires a much closer investigation after the spread of Covid-19, the Chinese Falun Gong.

At the center of the current propaganda war being waged on China is Falun Gong, a shadowy religious cult that has ties to the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. The cult’s newspaper, “The Epoch Times,” has been accredited by the Donald Trump White House and its propaganda has been championed by such Trump allies as Republican Senators Tom Cotton of Arkansas and Ted Cruz of Texas, as well as former Trump ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and right-wing radio commentator Rush Limbaugh. Trump’s personal attorney, Rudolph Giuliani, whose main responsibility for Trump appears to be the proffering of far-out and discredited conspiracy theories, has accused China of creating Covid-19 as a “bio-weapon.” “The Epoch Times” has championed many bogus stories being advanced by Giuliani. Being enticed into the world of Falun Gong is not Giuliani’s only entanglement with a cult. His support of the Iranian cult, the Mojahedin-e-Khalq (MEK), has turned the former New York mayor into a favorite for anyone wanting unsubstantiated allegations and propaganda to reach the ears of Donald Trump.

Egypt Armed Forces Eliminated 126 ISIS Members In Operation In Sinai

On May 3rd, an anti-ISIS operation was carried out by the Egyptian Armed Forces on the Sinai Peninsula, local Channel 1 reported.

The Egyptian Armed Forces said 126 ISIS militants were killed in 22 raids and 12 operations carried out by the army and police forces in Central and North Sinai.

Also, four officers, three non-commissioned officers and eight soldiers were either killed or injured during the operations, the statement noted, without specifying the exact number of deaths. The total is 15.

Also, the Air Force managed to destroy 228 hideouts that belonged to terrorists and 116 four-wheel drive vehicles, the statement added.

In addition to the 228 “hideouts used by terrorist elements” that had been destroyed, reportedly another 266 “criminal elements” were arrested.

This comes two days after 10 army members, including two officers, were “either killed or injured” in a terrorist attack in Bir El Abd city, North Sinai, according to Military Spokesman Tamer Al-Refae.

In a statement, the Armed Forces said it could seize a number of weapons and explosive belts, which were possessed by the eliminated terrorists.

The Interior Ministry later said 18 suspected militants had been killed in a shootout near Bir al-Abd.

“National security received intelligence about terrorist elements hiding out in a home in Bir al-Abed, where they were planning to launch hostile operations,” the ministry said in a statement.

“Their hideout was targeted and a firefight ensued, which led to the death of 18 [fighters].”

Security forces found 13 automatic weapons, two explosive belts and three other explosive devices in their possession, the ministry said.

The army could also find and detonate 630 explosive devices that were planted to target the armed forces. The opening of eight tunnels were also discovered and destroyed.

The military publishes updates on its operations in Sinai every few months, without giving a specific time frame.

In February 2018, security forces launched a nationwide operation against armed groups, focused on North Sinai.

More than 925 suspected armed fighters have been killed in the region along with dozens of security personnel, according to official figures.

Egypt has been countering terrorism and extremism ideologies over the past years since the ouster of late Muslim Brotherhood President Mohamed Morsi. Several operations have been taking place in Sinai against terrorists, as many Egyptian officers and soldiers have martyred in the battle.

China Purchases More Venezuelan Oil In Push For Geopolitical Influence

Venezuelan crude oil exports are growing for the second month in a row.

This conclusion was made by Bloomberg based on the calculation data on the loading of tankers with Venezuelan oil.

In April, the amount of oil exported increased to 739,400 barrels per day and reached the highest level in three months.

This is 9.6% more than in March. At least 65% of Venezuelan oil was exported to China in April.

This is a very apparent push by China to increase its influence, with a sort of investment in the form of purchasing oil from Venezuela, instead of the massively discounted crude that Saudi Arabia offers.

The same can be observed in the way Beijing has been steadily increasing purchases of Moscow, as Russia is struggling heavily with the economic downturn in the country.

Venezuela is similarly under US sanctions and economic pressure.

At the same time, the United States is accusing China of not fulfilling the terms of the trade agreement, under which it is obliged to purchase a guaranteed volume of US “oil shale” in the amount of $52.4 billion.

It appears that, despite the deal with the US, china is establishing a new pool of oil suppliers for itself, and it is specifically those that appear more willing to assist it in forwarding its geopolitical interests.

The main parameter for selection in this pool is the principle of political loyalty and the proximity of the strategic objectives of the oil exporting states to those of China.

As a result, a new bipolar world is beginning to form in regard to oil purchases.

However, it should be reminded that all strategic alliances in the world began to form around oil, regardless, as such this is nothing new.

Two of the most striking (and still valid) alliances: the energy charter between the United States and Great Britain, the Quincy Pact between the United States and Saudi Arabia.

And all the world wars began with the breakdown of the oil agreements.

Venezuela is also one of the country’s that supports China’s Belt and Road Initiative, and as there are still no significant direct investments, China has pledged to fund numerous projects in the country.

The current standoff between the US and China seems exacerbated, with accusations against US ships in the South China Sea, Washington saying it has evidence that COVID-19 originated in a laboratory in Wuhan, China pushing its interests in every area it can, while the US does the same, amid the economic downturn and the continuing pandemic.

Netanyahu: Israel will invest $60 million in R&D for coronavirus vaccine

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced at a global coronavirus vaccine conference that Israel will invest $60 million in research and development in the fields of diagnosis, treatment and the development of medicine and vaccines for the novel coronavirus.

World leaders launched a pledging "marathon" on Monday – without the United States – to raise at least $8 billion for research into a possible vaccine and treatments for the coronavirus.

Organizers included the European Union, non-EU states Britain and Norway, as well as Japan, Canada and Saudi Arabia, although, China, where the virus originated in December, was only represented by its ambassador to the European Union.

Harvard Canceled Human Rights Event as Its President Met With Xi Jinping

Human rights scholar says university trades free inquiry for Chinese dollars

Harvard University canceled a panel discussion on Hong Kong protests because the event coincided with the university president's meet-and-greet with Chinese president Xi Jinping, according to a former university scholar.

Teng Biao, a former fellow at Harvard Kennedy School's human rights center, attempted to host a panel discussion on Chinese human rights issues in 2015. A vice dean at Harvard Law School, however, ordered him in February of that year to cancel the event because it would have been "embarrassing" for the university, according to Teng.

"He called me into his office and he told me that the Harvard president was meeting Chinese president Xi Jinping," Teng told the Washington Free Beacon. "It seems that for Harvard leaders, it was very embarrassing if we had a talk at Harvard about human rights issues in China when the Harvard president just came back from China after meeting with the Chinese president."

Teng is a human rights lawyer who fled China after authorities kidnapped and tortured him for his participation in the 2014 Hong Kong protests. Professor William P. Alford, a vice dean at the Harvard Law School, played a role in bringing Teng to Harvard. He also ordered Teng to cancel the event, according to the Harvard Crimson. Alford confirmed with the Free Beacon that he told Teng to postpone the event, a decision he made on his own accord, rather than at the administration's urging. He said that he allowed Teng to host other events during his time at Harvard. While Teng did participate in other events, he said the panel discussion was never re-scheduled.

Alford told the Free Beacon that he intervened because he did not want to endanger the university's Chinese operations.

"I did ask that an event Mr. Teng planned to hold to coincide with a meeting between this university's President and the Chinese President be postponed until after her short Beijing visit because I thought that timing might have an impact on university activity there (regarding academic, scientific, humanitarian and rights matters)," Alford said. "As the person who first invited Mr. Teng to spend a year here, I felt some responsibility for whatever impact his undertakings might have for others at the university."

WHO Says It Received No Data from US Proving Artificial Origin of COVID-19

The international health watchdog has also called for a 'scientific-based' rather than a political inquiry into the origin of the coronavirus.

The World Health Organisation has not received any data from the US proving that the COVID-19 virus was not of natural origin, Michael Ryan, the organisation's executive director of Health Emergencies Programme, said.

"We haven't yet received any data or specific evidence from the US government relating to the purported origin of virus. From our perspective, this remains speculative, and like any evidence-based organization, we will be very willing to receive any information that purports to the origin of the virus … So if that data and evidence is available, then it will be for the US government to decide whether and when it can be shared, but it is for WHO to operate in an information backup in that specific regard," Ryan said.

"So we focus on what we know, we focus on the evidence we have, and the evidence we have from the sequencing and from all that we have been advised is that the virus itself is of natural origin, and we need to understand more about that natural origin and particularly about intermediary host," the official argued.

He added that there should be a "scientific-based" rather than a political investigation into the origin of the virus.

US-China Row Over Virus

This comes following an article published in the Chinese state-owned Global Times newspaper on Sunday which accused US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo of "bluffing" over his claims about the artificial origin of the new coronavirus.

Last week, Pompeo claimed that the US had "significant evidence" that COVID-19 had been released on purpose from a laboratory in China's Wuhan.

Beijing rejected the allegations, blaming Washington for an attempt to divert attention from its own failures in fighting the coronavirus outbreak effectively.
