Germany Seeks Suspected Russian GRU Hacker’s Arrest: Media

Germany has issued an arrest warrant for a suspected Russian military intelligence officer alleged to have hacked servers in the German parliament, the country’s Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper reported Tuesday.

The suspect, Dmitry Badin, 29, is also wanted in the United States on charges of trying to interfere in the country’s 2016 presidential election. A 2018 indictment accused Badin and 11 other GRU military intelligence officers of hacking into and stealing documents from the computers of those involved in the elections, including Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party.

China Moves to Wean Itself of US Dollar Dependence, Steps Up Testing of Sovereign Digital Currency

Reports that China was launching a pilot program to test its ambitious Digital Currency Electronic Payment made headlines in late April, amid the emergence of screenshots on social media showing the DCEP wallet.

As China expands globally, seeking significant financial autonomy and less dependency on America amid its trade war with Washington, the country has long sought to wean itself from the US-dollar dominated financial system.

Finally, after years of effort, China is gearing up to release the world’s first sovereign digital currency - DCEP (short for Digital Currency/Electronic Payments).

China’s central bank launched a trial program across four cities - Shenzhen, Suzhou, Xiongan and Chengdu - to test the use of its digital currency, touted as incorporating some features of cryptocurrencies, but lacking the anonymity of such digital assets, the Digital Currency Research Institute of the People’s Bank of China confirmed to the South China Morning Post (SCMP).

Virginia Governor Takes Advantage of the Coronavirus Pandemic to Implement “Green New Deal” Program

Virginia Governor Ralph Northam signed a number of bills into law on Easter weekend that include policies akin to the Green New Deal that some Democrats are pursuing in Congress. The passing and signing of the laws took place during the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, similar to the recent budget bill approved by Governor Cuomo in New York.

One Virginia law requires new measures to promote energy efficiency, sets a schedule for closing old fossil fuel power plants, and requires electricity to come from 100 percent renewable sources such as solar or wind. If energy companies do not meet the targets, penalties will be assessed. The revenue obtained from the penalties would, in part, fund job training and renewable energy programs in historically disadvantaged communities. The legislation also advances offshore wind generation and solar and distributed generation. The bill makes Virginia the first southern state with a 100 percent clean energy standard. Another bill establishes a carbon dioxide cap-and-trade program to reduce emissions from power plants, in compliance with the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.

Chechen Leader Vows Punishments for Filming Quarantine Violation Detentions

Anyone who publishes footage of officers detaining people who violate coronavirus quarantine on social media should be put to work as janitors as punishment, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has said.

The republic of Chechnya in Russia’s North Caucasus is under one of the country’s strictest coronavirus lockdowns, with steep fines for going outside without a pass and the region’s borders closed to the rest of Russia. Last week, a video posted to YouTube showed a Chechen officer unsuccessfully chasing down an alleged lockdown violator.

"If someone records with their phone as they detain someone who violated self-isolation … bring them in, make them work. Let them work as janitors in hospitals, in the Interior Ministry and other institutions. Let them see what condition the medical staff is in. … Because of these people, the number of infections is increasing," the regional Caucasian Knot news agency quoted Kadyrov as saying at a televised coronavirus task force meeting Tuesday.

“Then they will understand what we are talking about," he added.

Kim Jong-un accepts WWII medal awarded by Putin days after DEATH rumors spread by Western media

He may have been reported dead last week by US/UK media, but today North Korean leader Kim Jong-un received a medal from President Putin for his contribution to perpetuating the memory of Soviet citizens buried in North Korea.

In 2019, the Kremlin announced the creation of a brand new award named ‘75 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945’, to be given to those chosen by the president. The award has already been presented to multiple people, many of whom are Russian veterans.

According to the Facebook page of the Russian Embassy in North Korea, Kim was awarded the medal “for his great personal contribution to the commemoration of Soviet citizens who died and were buried on the territory of the DPRK, and for looking after the safety of the graves and memorials of Soviet soldiers.”

In 1945, the USSR helped liberate the Korean peninsula from Japanese forces, and more than 4,700 Soviet troops died. According to the embassy, 1,375 are buried in North Korea.
