The infection rate, mortality, and average age of death are exactly the same as the common cold.

They've taken the common cold and treated it like it's a new plague in order to enforce a 1984-ish set of rules on us. They call it "the new normal" because the thing they're using to do it is, actually, normal. All the numbers we're seeing now are the same numbers we'll see every year.
