California sues Uber, Lyft for misclassifying drivers as independent contractors

California and its biggest cities are suing ride-hailing giants Uber Technologies Inc. UBER, +2.20% and Lyft Inc. LYFT, +0.92% for miss-classifying their drivers as independent contractors instead of employees in violation of the law, officials said in a statement Tuesday. Uber and Lyft were not immediately available for comment. California is suing the companies under authority granted by a new state law and under the California Competition Law. Uber and Lyft, which report financial results this week, are in the midst of undergoing big layoffs because of a downturn in the business due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Delta caps aircraft seating capacity to ensure safety amid COVID-19

Delta Air Lines (DAL.N) said on Tuesday it was putting a limit to seating capacity in its airplanes, as the U.S. carrier looks to provide a safe flying experience to customers amid the coronavirus crisis.

The airline aims to keep a planeโ€™s seating capacity at 50% in the first class and 60% for other ticket categories through June 30, while blocking the sale of select aisle and window seats, the company said in a statement.

Since mid-April, Delta has blocked the sale of middle seats on all its flights.
