they are native to the USA, from the east coast thru appalachia and down into Texas (me)

 

they don't transport well in packages and spoil quickly when ripe - so they never made it as a grocery crop

 

I planted 8 of them in a mini-orchard underneath some big oak trees - they're doing great living off my gray-water effluent…

oh it was karma, seeing as how I got popped 12 times when I was about 5 yrs old just walking under a nest… my arm and face were 3x normal after those guys hit me!
