Re: Q post 4101: "_why?" Perhaps this pertains:
_why, aka Why The Lucky Stiff, aka Jonathan Gillette: Eccentric Ruby programmer/hacker/artist/all-around nice guy who wanted people to ENJOY learning to code, to feel the joy of making computers obey them and not the other way around. He made Ruby popular and was much beloved in Ruby circles. Created Hackety Hack, friendly Ruby learning tools, and the Poignant Guide to Ruby, a language that also can be used for AI/machine learning/chat bot purposes. _why talked about people who soft-mod games through buffer overflows too. He mysteriously disappeared about 10 years ago after being doxxed, taking his sites, code, and accounts with him, much to the sadness of the Ruby community. He said shortly before vanishing that if you want your programming to last, write a game. Games? Chat? Hacking? AI?
In the 30-minute video he shows, e.g., a virtual swordfight program with figures randomly flinging funny insults at each other. He was a very whimsical and creative guy.
