We plant about an acre of sweet corn, yield usually 2-3 heads/plant. Feeds family of 6 for about 6 months. We plant beans after the corn is knee high - let it climb on corn. We fertilize with compost mostly, and cowpie soup. We raise worms and those get into every patch. We use native grains, but there aren't many to find without going heirloom - most are hybrid. We save some heads for seed every year so we aren't having to buy again.

We plant another acre of hard corn for grinding into meal and feeding chickens.

Had to put in hog-proof fencing to kep anything, and that cost several thousand to rope in 10 acres.
