Rep. Devin Nunes said there needs to be an investigation into a cover-up at the FBI.

Following the release of FBI notes in the Michael Flynn case last week, the California Republican said House Republicans have long fought with the bureau to declassify information, including details about Flynn, that demolish a narrative of collusion between President Trump, his allies, and Russia.

"Who the hell's over at the FBI that keeps covering this information up?" Nunes said during an interview with Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo. "It's derogatory, I get it, it's not good for the FBI. But I want to know who at the FBI keeps covering this up."

Nunes, who is the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, said there needs to be an investigation into the matter, part of a wider effort to examine what he calls “the three dossiers."

His comments come as President Trump is said to be increasingly fed up with FBI Director Christopher Wray, as a Justice Department review has led to disclosures of notes in the counterintelligence investigation into Flynn. Axios reported on Sunday that Trump is unlikely to fire Wray before the 2020 election, but has grown frustrated with the top FBI official because he is not seen as a fighter against "corruption" within the highest levels of the bureau.

Flynn, who served as Trump’s national security adviser for less than a month, pleaded guilty in 2017 to lying to the FBI about his conversations with a Russian diplomat before Trump entered the White House.

While working with his previous legal team, Flynn cooperated with special counsel Robert Mueller’s team in the Russia investigation, which ultimately was unable to establish criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia. But his new team, which is led by former federal prosecutor Sidney Powell, has been more aggressive in fighting the charges, and Flynn has declared his innocence, claiming he was set up by the FBI.

Nunes argued that evidence he has seen made it obvious that Flynn was innocent since "essentially day one."
