KKR Reports Loss of More Than $1 Billion, Hurt by Market Volatility
KKR & Co. logged a loss of more than $1 billion in the first quarter, a result of the Covid-19 pandemic shaking markets in the first three months of this year and impacting the outlook for the economy.
The private-equity firm said it had a net loss of $1.28 billion in the first quarter, which ended March 31, compared with a profit a year ago. The loss was $2.31 a share, compared with $1.27 a share in earnings a year ago.
The company reported $3.94 billion in net losses from investment activities. That compared with a year earlier when KKR had a $1.2 billion net gain. Other private-equity firms Apollo Global Management Inc. and Blackstone Group Inc. also notched investment hits from the market's first-quarter slump.
KKR said distributable earnings, which is cash that can be rewarded back to shareholders, were 42 cents a share. According to FactSet, analysts were expecting those results to be 41 cents a share.
Operating revenue was $943.2 million, beating estimates of $930.1 million. A year earlier, operating revenue came in at $850.1 million.
