The Trayvon Martin case was important on several levels, one of the key ones in that it was the first time that anonymous bloggers not affiliated with any state level actors or corporate media reached a wide audience, showed people how the "narrative" was being constructed, and saved a man's life who was being railroaded.
People began to see in real time how the "media" not only faked news, they doctored images, etc to present a narrative.
After that, more people began posting images of doctored/staged photos by the corporate media to weave a narrative. One example is the photo of the little boy who drowned as a refugee. Other photos of the same children being used as "refugees" in a number of different attacks which supposedly took places in different countries, conflicts etc.
Trayvon Martin case was a gateway to open people's minds about how disingenuous the corporate media is, it isn't about the truth, it's about shaping a narrative and pushing people's opinions and viewpoints about a current topic they "create".
