A couple of North Korean defectors being interviewed back in 2016. Starvation was a big factor, according to them. Also, no electricity. I lived on the Hopi Reservation with a family that had no electricity, for the most part, it wasn't so bad. Was one time in the winter where they didn't have enough wood cut and the father was waiting for his coal rations from the tribe to come in. His coal rations were late by about a week coming and there wasn't enough wood cut at the time. A HUGE winter wind came tearing through that house. The wood stove went out and I woke up in the middle of the night to a bunch of little Hopi children crying because it became so cold in the house. I flew out of bed, but on my clothes, ran out the door, picked up an axe, and ran over to an abandoned wrecked trailer house. I broke that place apart and got enough lumber to keep the house warm that night. The next day, I went out with some Hopis to cut cedar wood for some Indian that was going to pay everyone off with vodka. When he offered me vodka, I told him I didn't want vodka…I wanted wood for my Hopi family's house to get by until the coal rations came through. That Indian didn't like it, but he caved in and told me that I could take as much "reject wood" (the good wood was for bundling and selling) that I could carry. So, that's what I did, I picked up the BIGGEST pile of wood, almost all that he had laying there (I am a BIG guy btw, back then 300 lbs STRONG! Young, BIG, and STRONG! I was not Hopi sized). I walked that pile of wood back to my family's house at night, in the dark—probably at least a good quarter mile or so (I'm just guessing off hand, because it was on the opposite side of Shungopovi).
Thank GOD that we all live in America, Anons! But I want to tell you that on the reservations (it might not be to the degree as NK has) there is starvation and other third world type of scenarios going on. My hope (especially from watching POTUS yesterday with the Gila River Natives in Arizona) is that the Native American lives will get better too! GOD I PRAY FOR THAT EVERYDAY!
