At Least Five Dead, Over 200 Hospitalised After Gas Leak at Chemical Plant in India

According to police, a gas leak took place at around 03:30 a.m. local time at a plant belonging to LG Polymers India Pvt Ltd located at RR Venkatapuram village.

At least five people are dead while over 200 have been hospitalised after toxic gas leaked from a chemical plant belonging to South Korean multinational LG in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam on Thursday morning, officials said.

Video emerged on social media showing dozens of people, mostly children and the old, fainting within their homes and on the streets.

“The police are unable to enter the colonies because of the foul smell. They went round the colonies asking the people to come out of their homes and move to safer places”, an assistant commissioner of police, Swaroopa Rani, said.

Police evacuated the area around the factory. A National and State Disaster Response Force are carrying out rescue operations.

District collector V Vinay Chand said that the incident took place after the plant - owned and operated by a branch company for multinational consumer products giant LG Corporation - was recommissioned and sarin gas erupted from one of its chambers.

"There were attempts to bring the gas under control by spraying but it did not work," V Vinay Chand said.

Officials confirmed to media that the gas spread into 20 villages around the plant. Local legislator P Gana Babu said ambulances meant for Coronavirus cases were diverted to move people to safer places.

The plant was scheduled to reopen on Thursday after 40 days of closure due to the nationwide lockdown imposed by the Narendra Modi government in an attempt to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The LG Polymers company was originally established in 1961 as Hindustan Polymers for manufacturing polystyrene and its co-polymers in Visakhapatnam. The company merged with McDowell & Company Limited of UB Group in 1978, eventually joining under the umbrella of the giant South Korean multinational.

OPCW head FALSELY described Syria whistleblower inspectors to discredit them, new documents show

New documents leaked from the global chemical watchdog show that two inspectors blowing the whistle about the 2018 Douma incident in Syria were right, and the director seeking to discredit them was wrong.

Two inspectors with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) have challenged the organization’s final report on the April 2018 incident, which they say was altered to dismiss their findings and validate after the fact the US, UK and French missile strikes against the government in Damascus.

OPCW Director General Fernando Arias responded earlier this year by describing them as “rogue” inspectors who weren’t even members of the mission. Documents obtained by investigative journalist Aaron Mate at Greyzone, however, show Arias’s statements were false or misleading.

Arias claimed that South African inspector Ian Henderson was “not a member” of the fact-finding mission (FFM) dispatched to Douma and played a “minor supporting role.” However, the documents from April 2018 obtained by the Grayzone show that OPCW directors were “happy” to have Henderson lead the visits to the most important locations in Douma: the hospital and the sites of alleged chlorine cylinder impact, for instance.

Another document, described as a sensitive security-planning memorandum known as CONOPS, lists Henderson as part of the FFM under the section “Mission Personnel.”

Last, but not least, the “F038” memorandum to the Syrian government lists Henderson as “part of the team conducting the technical secretariat visits,” notifying Damascus of his role. Henderson has previously explained publicly that he was on a mission in Nepal, and was assigned to Douma immediately upon his return.

Federal Judges Help Free Nearly 200 Illegal Aliens: Murderers, Rapists, Sex Offenders

Federal judges have helped release nearly 200 illegal aliens into the United States — many convicted of murder, rape, and child sex crimes — in the midst of the Chinese coronavirus crisis.

Data released by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency this week reveals that about 192 illegal aliens, thus far, have been ordered freed from detention into the U.S. About 171 of those illegal aliens have either been convicted or accused of crimes against Americans.

Los Angeles, California; Boston, Massachusetts; New York City, New York; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania have seen the most widespread court-ordered releases of illegal aliens.

In Los Angeles, for instance, 52 illegal aliens have been freed into the U.S. About 43 of those illegal aliens have been convicted or accused of crimes such as homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, juvenile sex offenses, and child cruelty.

Federal judges in Boston have helped free 44 illegal aliens from ICE custody so far. About 42 of these illegal aliens have been convicted or accused of crimes like rape, assault, drug trafficking, and domestic violence.

Likewise, ICE has been forced to release 34 illegal aliens in New York City — 32 of whom have been convicted or accused of sexual assault, rape, assault, cruelty toward a child, drug possession, and drunk driving.

Other releases include:

33 illegal aliens released in Philadelphia — 29 of which have been convicted or accused of voluntary manslaughter, assault, and drug trafficking.

Ten illegal aliens released in San Francisco, California — eight of which have been convicted or accused of lewd acts with a minor, robbery, burglary, and drunk driving.

Five illegal aliens released in Detroit, Michigan, all of which have been convicted or accused of homicide and multiple drunk driving charges.

Four illegal aliens released in Newark, New Jersey, all of which have been convicted or accused of sexual contact with a minor, assault, unlawful possession of a handgun, and drunk driving.

Four illegal aliens released in Chicago, Illinois — three of which have been convicted or accused of homicide, theft, and drug possession.

Six illegal aliens released in Buffalo, New York, Denver Colorado, Houston, Texas, and Miami, Florida — five of which have been convicted or accused of felony drunk driving, bodily injury of a family member, money laundering, grand larceny, and selling cocaine.

The releases come as the George Soros-funded American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has sought the release of thousands of convicted and accused criminals in state prisons and ICE detention centers.

Most recently, the ACLU filed a lawsuit against Orange County, California officials to demand they release about 500 inmates from the region’s prison system. Already, Orange County’s prisons have been emptied by nearly 45 percent in recent weeks by court orders.

George Pell: cardinal was aware of children being sexually abused, royal commission report finds

Previously redacted findings from the commission’s report into Pell’s handling of child sexual abuse claims have now been made public

Cardinal George Pell was aware of children being sexually abused within the Archdiocese of Ballarat by notorious paedophile priest Gerald Ridsdale, Australia’s child abuse royal commission found, and it was “implausible” that other senior church figures did not tell Pell abuse was occurring.

More than 100 previously redacted pages of the child abuse royal commission report relating to Cardinal George Pell and what he knew about child sexual abuse within the Catholic church were tabled to parliament on Thursday morning.

While the commission delivered its final report to parliament in December 2017 following a comprehensive five year inquiry into abuse in institutions throughout Australia, survivors and advocates have been forced to wait for the findings relating to Pell because of legal action against him. There was concern the findings would prejudice a jury, so they were withheld. Pell was acquitted in April of child sexual abuse charges and released from jail, clearing the way for the report to be made public.

Australia’s royal commission into institutional responses to child sexual abuse heard disturbing details about Gerald Ridsdale’s offending and the response of the Catholic church to it. In 2015, before the Ballarat town hall, the commission heard evidence that suggested Pell was involved in the decision to move Ridsdale between parishes once the abuse came to light, including parishes in Mildura, Swan Hill, Warrnambool, Apollo Bay, Ballarat and Mortlake. Pell has always denied this, or any knowledge of children being abused in Ballarat including by Ridsdale.

But the royal commission found: “We are satisfied that in 1973 Father Pell turned his mind to the prudence of Ridsdale taking boys on overnight camps”.

“The most likely reason for this, as Cardinal Pell acknowledged, was the possibility that if priests were one-on-one with a child then they could sexually abuse a child or at least provoke gossip about such a prospect. By this time, child sexual abuse was on his radar, in relation to not only Monsignor Day but also Ridsdale. We are also satisfied that by 1973 Cardinal Pell was not only conscious of child sexual abuse by clergy but that he also had considered measures of avoiding situations which might provoke gossip about it.”
