You are not taking this in the context in which it was given. Clearly Jesus is talking about what his good works are about, where they come from. He always said that he did His Father's will. The power he had to do the good works came from his Father God - through Holy Spirit.

He is clearly talking in context of what his will is as compared to his Father's will. Jesus always did his Father's will, not his own. Therefore, in v30 "I and my Father are one." is clearly about their will - their will is one and the same.

This is VERY important to get clear. Because if Jesus Christ was God the entire bible falls apart. All that he accomplished for us would not make any sense.

If you look at this verse in the Greek concordance, the word "one" is the Greek word heis (pic 1).

The definition for this word as how it is used in this particular verse is "to be united most closely (in will, spirit)". (pic 2) This is what Jesus Christ was saying throughout that entire chapter really, but especially in this verse.

Give me any verse in the word that Trinitarians use to prove the trinity (this word btw NEVER appears in the bible) and I will show you how and why it is wrong to apply it that way. I have done this with many Catholics and they in the end give up and agree with me. Or they remain defiant and say well we can agree to disagree. It is a losing battle sometimes to argue this because the entire premise of the Trinitarian Creed is based on falseness and a theory that continually loops upon itself so you can't get out of the loop. That is how they trap you. But all their bible references they use are used falsely or incorrectly. BTW, if you read the Trinitarian Creed, there is NOT ONE BIBLE VERSE REFERENCED. This is just man's theory and not God's word, but it is used to bastardize God's word.

***You are right that this is VERY important to understand as it is foundational for our faith. Here is my understanding for what it’s worth:

“TRINITY” is not mentioned by name in the Bible.

It refers to the concept of how God reveals himself to us.

God is revealed as the Father, who nurtures, guides, and provides for his children.

God is revealed as the Son, who teaches love and compassion and who makes the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of humanity.

God is revealed as the ever-present Holy Spirit, who continues to guide, and teaches all things.

One God - revealed as God the Father, God the Son, And God the Holy Spirit.

Think of it as the faces of God.

Example: A person is revealed in various ways in their life - as a child, as a parent, as a co-worker or grandparent.

God IS the Father, IS the Son, and IS the Holy Spirit. (The Father is not God, the Son is not God, and the Holy Spirit is not God.)

When Jesus ascended, God sent the Holy Spirit to dwell with us, and fulfilling God’s promise to never leaves us or forsake us.
