Or he needs masks because they don't have enough and wants them for hospitals and government…
Or he's BADLY misinformed and an idiot.
Even a cotton mask has about a 50% effectiveness.
Masks work 3 ways.
They stop you (possibly unknowingly infected) from spreading most of the droplets sharply reducing the likelihood of you infecting someone else.
They stop you from touching the membranes around your mount/nose.
They reduce both the likelihood and amount of viral particles you come across.
The amount of virus you are initially infected will has a HUGE influence over how likely you are to get seriously sick or die, a very small initial infection (only a few viral particles) gives your immune system longer to develop immunity before it reaches life threatening levels.
The countries, and hospitals that have instituted mask wearing have collapsed the rate of COVID drastically!
