haha no. in old time hockey it was a form of self policing. you wack our guy in the face with your stick, we'll make you think twice about it next time. its also a good way to shift momentum in a game. but those days are pretty much dead. hockey has been liberalized just like everything else.

helmets, instigator rule, 3rd man in rule, visors, hack/slash penalties, hit to head and so on. i can see the argument for the game being faster, and players stronger now a days, but they've used that for an excuse to change the game entirely. just like everything else.
