Fox's Jesse Watters: Barr has documents that could show Obama's 'powerful connection' to 'Spygate'

Fox News host Jesse Watters said sources are telling him Attorney General William Barr has received "smoking gun" documents that will cast aspersions on the Russia investigation. In his opening monologue on Watters' World, which was taped Friday but aired Saturday evening, the host said these records could reveal that former President Barack Obama had a significant role in the investigation into the Trump 2016 campaign's ties to Russia, which President Trump and his allies have deemed a "witch hunt." "Sources are telling Watters' World that Attorney General Bill Barr was just given a trove of smoking gun documents that could point directly at former President Barack Obama, revealing his powerful connection to 'Spygate' and the Russia hoax," he said.

Watters appeared to be referring to the "satchel" of documents Fox News chief White House correspondent Ed Henry reported that acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell delivered to the Justice Department last week, following the release of House Intelligence Committee witness transcripts showing Obama administration officials admitting they had no direct evidence of Trump-Russia collusion. All this comes after the Justice Department filed to dismiss its criminal case against retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, Trump's first national security adviser who got swept up in special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation. Included in the Justice Department's motion to dismiss was an exhibit including notes from an interview that Mueller's team conducted with former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates. These declassified notes show Yates, during the presidential transition period, expressing shock to learn details about Flynn's intercepted phone calls with a Russian envoy from Obama while former FBI Director James Comey appeared to be giving his superior at the time the run-around.

Watters pointed to Trump's tweet on Friday, saying the president's missive "hinted this is far from over." "Yesterday was a BIG day for Justice in the USA. Congratulations to General Flynn, and many others. I do believe there is MUCH more to come! Dirty Cops and Crooked Politicians do not go well together!" Trump said. The Russia investigation is being examined by U.S. Attorney John Durham. Barr, who appointed the Connecticut prosecutor to the task, has not dismissed the possibility of criminal prosecutions. In leaked audio obtained and reported by Yahoo News on Friday, Obama told former administration officials that the Justice Department's recent actions under Barr show the "rule of law is at risk."

Rose McGowan accuses Bill Maher of sexually harassing her about his 'huge c—,' says she 'could feel' his 'hot breath'

A leader of the #MeToo movement is accusing one of the country's top late-night TV hosts of sexual impropriety. Late Friday night, actress Rose McGowan accused Bill Maher of sexually harassing her in a post that recalled an appearance she had on the comedian's show Politically Incorrect in the 1990s. "@billmaher Here’s a memory I’d like to share with you," McGowan tweeted directly at Maher. "I bet you don’t remember, but I sure do. I was so excited to be on your show & get to flex my mind instead of my face. Here’s what happened. All I can say, Bill, you got the face you deserved."

McGowan linked to a Twitter draft that detailed her experience on Maher's show "in the late 90s." McGowan said she "could feel" Maher's "hot breath" and later wondered how the host interacts with women who don't have the kind of power that McGowan does. "I was on your show Politically Incorrect in the late 90s — as the show returned from a commercial break, you leaned over to me & whispered in my ear, 'my parents didn't give me a good face, but they did give me a huge c-,'" she wrote. "I could feel your hot breath on my ear as an image of both your hideous face & alleged big c- flashed in my mind. Both turned my stomach. I've always wondered what you say & do to the girls that aren't famous?" McGowan is a high-profile advocate for women's rights and supported female actors who were abused by disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein. Maher defended former MSNBC host Chris Matthews and former Sen. Al Franken after both men lost their jobs after sexual harassment claims.

'Curious statement': Liberal law professor slams Obama claim that 'rule of law is at risk' after Flynn exoneration

Constitutional scholar Jonathan Turley pushed back on former President Barack Obama’s warning that the "rule of law is at risk" after the Justice Department dropped charges against former national security adviser retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn. “The news over the last 24 hours I think has been somewhat downplayed — about the Justice Department dropping charges against Michael Flynn,” Obama was quoted saying Friday. “And the fact that there is no precedent that anybody can find for somebody who has been charged with perjury just getting off scot-free. That’s the kind of stuff where you begin to get worried that basic, not just institutional norms, but our basic understanding of rule of law is at risk. And when you start moving in those directions, it can accelerate pretty quickly as we’ve seen in other places," he said.

Turley wrote on Twitter of Obama’s statement, "'There is no precedent that anybody can find for someone who has been charged with perjury just getting off scot-free' was a 'curious statement' for several reasons." "First, 'Flynn was not charged with perjury.' Second, 'We now know Obama discussed charging Flynn under the Logan Act which has never been used successfully to convict anyone and is flagrantly unconstitutional,'" Turley wrote in a Twitter thread. Turley, a self-proclaimed liberal who was a witness during the impeachment proceedings against President Trump, added a third point that Obama’s comment “reaffirms reports that Obama was personally invested in this effort.”

Lastly, Turley pointed out that he believes there is indeed precedent for what took place with Flynn. "Finally, there is precedent,” Turley wrote. “There is a specific rule allowing for this motion under Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 48(a). There are specific Supreme Court cases like Rinaldi v. United States addressing the standard for such dismissals. The Justice Department has dismissed cases in the past including the Stevens case. That was requested by President Obama's own Attorney General Eric Holder for the same reason: misconduct by prosecutors. It was done before the same judge, Judge Sullivan.” “How is that for precedent?” Turley asked.

“The United States of America hereby moves to dismiss with prejudice the criminal information filed against Michael T. Flynn,” U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Timothy Shea said in a court briefing, "The government has determined, pursuant to the principles of federal prosecution and based on an extensive review and careful consideration of the circumstances, that continued prosecution of this case would not serve the interests of justice."

'Compassion and empathy': California Gov. Newsom endorses Biden for president

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has endorsed Joe Biden’s run for the presidency. The Democrat said he “couldn’t be more proud” of Biden or the prospect of his presidency. Newsom made the announcement Friday during an expensive virtual fundraiser that was done in concert with the Democratic National Committee. Newsom lauded the former vice president for his “deep compassion and empathy” while making the endorsement. “I'm enlivened by your candidacy,” the governor said. “I'm proud of your service, as we all are. This is a unique moment in time and unique moment in our history.”

Biden responded to the endorsement by saying that Newsom was doing “one hell of a job” as governor during the coronavirus pandemic, which has forced political events such as the one on Friday evening online. During the health crisis, Newsom has repeatedly reached across party lines and thanked President Trump for providing federal assistance. The endorsement came the same day that Newsom signed an executive order directing the state to mail every registered voter a ballot for the November election in light of the coronavirus pandemic. Republicans have pushed back on the notion of mail-in voting, with Trump claiming it could lead to voter fraud.
