A growing number of Pa. counties test Gov. Tom Wolf’s emergency powers, saying they’ll decide if it’s time to reopen

Gov. Tom Wolf’s control over Pennsylvania’s official response to the coronavirus pandemic appeared to be fraying around the edges Saturday as county commissioners from at least five counties threatened to take unilateral action to push their constituents ahead of the state’s pacing for business and public life reopening.

Republican commissioner majorities in Berks, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lebanon and Schuylkill counties have all made public moves in that direction in recent days.

PLO says cessation of payments to convicted terrorists is 'declaration of war' by Israel

Fatah's Revolutionary Council condemned security orders in Judea and Samaria which would expose Palestinian Authority (PA) banks to fines and imprisonment if they continue transferring PA funds to security prisoners' bank accounts.

In response to the order, PA banks froze the terrorists' accounts, but promised to reopen them in defiance of the orders banning facilitation of payments to terrorists.

In a statement issued over the weekend, the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) claimed the Israeli orders were a "violation and an end to diplomatic and economic agreements" between Israel and the PA.

The PLO's Revolutionary Council noted that it sees this step as "a declaration of war against the holiest issue for the Palestinian conscious and existence."

It emphasized that the "Palestinian nation" will not allow the order to be implemented, nor will it allow the implementation of additional decisions such as annexing parts of Judea and Samaria, which the PLO sees as expressing the logic of the "criminal and terrorist Zionist occupation."

Ohio State University to pay $41 million to 162 men who say they were sexually abused by doctor

Ohio State University announced the details of settlement reached with over 160 men who say they were sexually abused by Richard Strauss, a long-time athletic team physician at the school.

The $40.9 million settlement was reached with 162 male survivors. It covers 12 lawsuits related to abuse allegedly perpetrated by Strauss, who was employed by the university from 1978 until 1998.

An independent investigation launched by the University found in 2019 that the physician abused students and “university administration failed to appropriately respond at the time,” the university said in a Friday statement.

The report found that personnel at the university knew what Strauss was doing as early as 1979.

“The university of decades ago failed these individuals – our students, alumni and members of the Buckeye community,” said President Michael V. Drake said. “Nothing can undo the wrongs of the past, but we must do what we can today to work toward restorative justice."

“Our focus will always be on the survivors. We know it took great courage for them to come forward, and we are grateful,” he added.
