Until now, I have assiduously avoided Ancient Aliens. I had a feeling that if I watched the show—which popularizes far-fetched, evidence-free idiocy about how human history has been molded by extra-terrestrial visitors—my brain would jostle its way out of my skull and stalk the earth in search of a kinder host. Or, at the very least, watching the show would kill about as many brain cells as a weekend bender in Las Vegas. But then I heard the History Channel’s slurry of pseudoscience had taken on dinosaurs. I steeled myself for the pain and watched the mind-melting madness unfold.

Venezuelan forces seize ‘8 mercenaries’ attempting to invade from Colombia
BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:10 P.M.) – The leadership of the Venezuelan Army stated that eight mercenaries who had infiltrated the country from Colombia were arrested with the aim of toppling the government and assassinating President Nicholas Maduro.
“Maritime units were able to discover and detain eight mercenary terrorists in the evening,” the Venezuelan Army said in a statement.
The Venezuelan authorities have indicated that, to date, a total of 45 mercenaries have been arrested in the “attempted invasion.”
Among the detainees were two U.S. citizens, whose official documents were shown on Venezuelan television.
During their interrogation, a captured U.S. mercenary said that he and his companions had to control the airport in order for Maduro to be transferred from there to the United States.
Earlier, the Venezuelan National Armed Forces said that they had discovered three boats of the Colombian Navy carrying weapons while moored on the Venezuelan coast.
Prior to that, the Venezuelan Interior Minister Nestor Riverol said, in a televised speech: “On May 3, a group of mercenary terrorists from Colombia attempted to carry out an invasion by sea with the aim of launching terrorist attacks in the country and assassinating leaders of the Venezuelan government … and carrying out a coup against power.”
To date, the U.S. authorities have denied having any role in these attempted incursions, while the Venezuelan government has repeatedly accused of Washington of orchestrating these coups

VIDEO shows damaged Iranian naval ship involved in training incident that left 19 dead & 15 injured
Local media have released the first video of an Iranian ship which was accidentally destroyed during a military exercise near the Strait of Hormuz. More than a dozen sailors died.
The short clip, released by Iranian media, shows a heavily damaged vessel with plumes of smoke billowing from its surface
The Iranian Navy had previously confirmed that at least 19 sailors were killed and 15 injured on board the logistics and support ship Konarak during a military drill near the port city of Jask in the Gulf of Oman on Sunday evening. The officials did not provide details of the incident, while an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the tragedy.
According to unofficial reports, Iranian frigate Jamaran, belonging to the country’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), had prematurely fired an anti-ship missile, hitting the Konarak after it set up a floating target.

Continuous Israeli pounding makes Iran rethink its footprint in Syria
Since the 2011 Civil War in Syria began, the Iranians have seen a huge window of opportunity to not only increase their influence throughout the region, but to get their troops and, more importantly, their missiles on the border of their most hated enemy — Israel.
The combination of Iranian and Russian intervention has no doubt saved the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad. The Islamic republic has also thrown Hezbollah into the fray. Hezbollah is based in Lebanon but it is an Iranian proxy taking its orders from Tehran. It is trying to not only prop up the Damascus regime, but to counter the American-led coalition’s presence in both Syria and Iraq.
Yet the situation is changing and a combination of the Coronavirus, a collapsing economy, and punishing airstrikes from Israel have the Iranians rethinking the cost of their ambitious plans. There have been indications for the past few months that the Iranians are going from the offensive to the defensive. And the huge cost of personnel lost, which is no doubt woefully underrepresented, is taking a toll on their resolve.
It no longer is Iran that is on the move, but Israel. The Israeli government has long made it clear that it will not accept Iranian bases and large amounts of Iranian troops and proxies on its borders. Israel has conducted hundreds of airstrikes since the civil war began but has significantly increased its operational tempo recently.

Hungary summons ambassadors of 5 Nordic countries, demands they stop spreading fake news
Hungary is summoning the ambassadors of five Nordic countries after they criticized Hungary over its state of emergency law designed to protect the country during the coronavirus crisis.
Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó indicated that Hungary is summoning Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Norway and Sweden after their respective foreign ministers sent a letter claiming Hungary was violating the “rule of law” to the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić.
In the letter, the five Nordic countries assured Burić of their support regarding her concerns over the emergency bill that gave the Hungarian government extended powers for the duration of the coronavirus pandemic.
The foreign ministers of the five Nordic countries responded to Burić on May 6 that they “share the concerns expressed in that letter. Even in an emergency situation the rule of law must prevail.”
They were responding to Burić’s original letter, which stated, “An indefinite and uncontrolled state of emergency cannot guarantee that the basic principles of democracy will be observed and that the emergency measures restricting fundamental human rights are strictly proportionate to the threat which they are supposed to counter

Danish activists protest against obnoxiously loud call to prayer (VIDEO)
Danish activists from the pan-European group Generation Identity have hung a massive banner which read “Stop Prayer Calls” to protest a mosque’s obnoxiously loud call to prayer.
Shortly after word of the protest reached ears inside the mosque, Muslims took to the streets in Gallerup – a multicultural neighborhood in Aarhus – to demonstrate the might of Islam in Denmark. Several videos have emerged of aggressive Muslims driving cars through the streets as they honk their horns, disobey traffic rules, play loud music, and hang outside of windows and sunroofs, local news site Lokalavisen reports.
The Mosque of Peace, as it is unironically called, is the second largest mosque in Aarhus, and was one of the few mosques in Denmark that refused to distance itself from the Islamic State. Gallerup, which is a hotbed for young Islamic extremists, in 2015 saw young Muslims driving around in cars while waving black ISIS flags and fake AK-47s, according to report from the Danish newspaper Berlingske.
This time, however, the young Muslims – to their credit – were not waving ISIS flags as they drove around Gallerup blaring their horns.
While Islamic calls to prayer aren’t explicitly prohibited by law in Denmark, there’s undoubtedly a strong aversion to them among the Danish people. And, Danes are certainly not alone in their opposition to the offensively loud calls to prayer. The same aversion exists and is widespread in the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, France, and other European countries.
