The Shriners were invented to distract from when the Masons tried to take over the government, got outed in a book by one of their own, named William Morgan, and in 1826 they threw him into one side or the other of Niagara Falls.
I can't remember what I read about them, it was years ago. Although I can remember many bits and pieces of what I find, I might end up with an amorphous "them" and have to go back and reread to put events and people in a context.
Maybe yes and maybe no. There are rich boaters who are part of the cabal, and then there is a whole subculture of boaters that are independent, aware of what is going on, and that's why they are boaters. I wish I was one of them.
