US Lawmakers Seek to Secure Semiconductor Supply Chains Away From China

The newly-formed China Task Force, a House committee comprised of 15 Republican lawmakers, is hoping to maintain the United States’ edge in designing advanced semiconductor chips—used to power nearly all electronic devices, from smartphones and computers to satellites and missile systems.

Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas), the leader of the task force and chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, called on Congress to secure semiconductor supply chains from “the threat posed by malign actors like the Chinese Communist Party.”

He also asked Congress to come up with incentives for manufacturers to make advanced semiconductor chips in the United States.

“Cutting edge semiconductors are key to the nation’s future security and economic competitiveness,” he said in a press release issued on May 10.

Electronic device companies like Apple design their own chips before sending the blueprints to chip contractors to manufacture them. Currently, there are three companies in the world capable of manufacturing the fastest and most advanced chips: U.S. firm Intel, South Korean tech giant Samsung, and Taiwan-based TSMC, the world’s biggest contract chipmaker.

Although China lags behind in semiconductor manufacturing capabilities—with China’s chipmakers at least two generations behind TSMC—some parts of the supply chain are based in China. For example,

Apple May Move 20% Of Manufacturing Capacity From China To India, Boost Indian Tech Exports

Apple could become India’s largest exporter

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is eager to bring more high-tech manufacturing to India

Apple directly and indirectly employs some 4.8 million people in China.

Apple (AAPL) may be considering moving one-fifth of its Chinese manufacturing capacity to India amid the coronavirus pandemic.

India’s Economic Times reported that Apple’s senior executives and high ranking Indian government officials have held discussions over the last few months to not only shift some production to India, but to also increase its Indian manufacturing revenues through its contract manufacturers to about $40 billion over the next five years.

Should this move occur, Apple could become India’s largest exporter.

“We expect Apple to produce up to $40 billion worth of smartphones, mostly for exports through its contract manufacturers Wistron and Foxconn, availing the benefits under the [government’s] production-linked incentive scheme,” said a senior government official.

The production-linked incentive, or PLI, was designed to incentivize local handset manufacturing and boost exports. Under the PLI scheme, a company is required to manufacture at least $10 billion in mobile phones between 2020 and 2025 to receive the benefits of the PLI scheme.

However some details of the scheme still have to be ironed out to Apple’s satisfaction.

“There are some problems with some of the [PLI] clauses. For instance, valuing the entire plant and machinery already in use in its plants across China and other places at 40% of that value and the extent of the business information sought under the scheme are some of the irritants,” a source told India’s Economic Times.

Trump Calls for Chuck Todd to Be Fired After Airing a Deceptively Edited Clip of AG Barr on 'Meet the Press'

On Sunday, NBC News admitted that on that morning’s episode of “Meet The Press,” host Chuck Todd aired a deceptively edited clip of Attorney General Bill Barr’s interview with CBS News’ Catherine Herridge discussing the Michael Flynn case.

“When history looks back on this decision, how do you think it will be written?” asked Herridge.

“Well, history’s written by the winners, so it largely depends on [laughs] who’s writing the history,” Barr responded in the clip.

In response to the clip, Todd said he was “struck … by the cynicism of the answer.”

Todd continued. “He didn’t make the case that he was upholding the rule of law. He was almost admitting that, yeah, this is a political job.”

Todd was 100 percent incorrect. Here’s a transcript the full exchange, with the portions included in Chuck Todd’s clip in bold:

HERRIDGE: In closing, this was a big decision in the Flynn case, to– to say the least. When history looks back on this decision, how do you think it will be written? What will it say about your decision making?

BARR: Well, history is written by the winner. So it largely depends on [laughs] who’s writing the history. But I think a fair history would say that it was a good decision because it upheld the rule of law. It helped, it upheld the standards of the Department of Justice, and it undid what was an injustice.

Attorney General Barr absolutely argued he was upholding the rule of law. This blatant deception by Chuck Todd prompted a response from DOJ spokeswoman Kerri Kupec, who tweeted: “Very disappointed by the deceptive editing/commentary by @ChuckTodd on @MeetThePress on AG Barr’s CBS interview.” She posted a transcript of the CBS interview and compared it to what Chuck Todd aired.

“Compare the two transcripts below. Not only did the AG make the case in the VERY answer Chuck says he didn’t, he also did so multiple times throughout the interview,” she wrote.

The official Twitter account for ‘Meet The Press’ responded to the tweet, acknowledging the “error.”

Feds Catch San Francisco Man Streaming Child Pornography On Zoom

SAN FRANCISCO – Chad Andrew Carter, 44, (a.k.a. “TopRod”) was arrested by Homeland Security agents May 5 for possessing 3,077 image files and 469 video files containing child pornography, including images and videos of victims as young as three-to-five years old.

“Homeland Security Investigations agents, professional staff, and partner law enforcement agencies are continuing to pursue child predators online during the COVID-19 crisis. This is a particularly vulnerable time as more children are required to be online to accomplish remote learning. We urge parents and other caregivers to be vigilant and to provide as much supervision on online activity as possible,” said HSI Special Agent in Charge Tatum King.

According to United States Attorney David L. Anderson, a criminal complaint filed April 30, 2020, states Carter, of San Francisco, is alleged to have knowingly possessed child pornography. As detailed in the complaint, an individual using the handle “TopRod” was observed in a Zoom chat room displaying and streaming child pornography videos. Zoom is a videoconferencing and photo and video sharing platform. The user “TopRod” was traced to an IP address and email account in the defendant’s name.

On Jan. 4, 2018, HSI agents executed a search warrant on the defendant’s residence and seized various electronic devices storing the image and video files containing child pornography.

Carter appeared May 6, 2020, via teleconference before the Honorable Alex G. Tse, U.S. Magistrate Judge, and then again via teleconference on May 7, 2020, before the Honorable Susan van Keulen, U.S. Magistrate Judge. Carter’s next appearance is scheduled for May 27, 2020, at 10:30 a.m.

What Happened in California and Maine with Smart Meters Didn’t Stay in California and Maine, People Were Hurt

When the deadline arrived, there were 120 comments, 20 primarily from industry and industry enthusiasts, and 100 comments from citizens in opposition, including individuals from other states reporting harm and/or health vulnerability.

Since that time, the drive to install smart meters across Massachusetts continues. An unprecedented auto-enrollment pilot program was targeted for 15,000 households in Worcester, meaning that individuals who received smart meters and were in the pilot did not provide informed consent. A tobacco scientist, literally, provided health testimony to undermine citizen health concerns. The City’s Mayor, Manager, Assessor, and Health Department were clearly aligned with the utility before the program even started. The local Chamber of Commerce and several area colleges had already been enticed to support the pilot as active partners, and the monopoly utility was infiltrating other groups, promoting the technology as “green” and “sustainable.”

Several City Councilors attempted to advocate for the residents, and the City’s lawyer courageously addressed the utility’s lack of authority to override local zoning regulations prohibiting the installation of a 90 ft microwave antenna in a residential neighborhood. The local community cable television station, a small local paper, and several key individuals in Worcester neighborhoods played a significant role in continuing to challenge the pilot, attending meetings, writing letters, and strategizing,

The pilot was supposed to inform decision making for the Commonwealth, but it violated nearly every tenant of research integrity. An industry-embedded consulting firm provided glowing, fraudulent analysis that remains unaddressed to this day. The pilot was clearly administered as an example of decision-based evidence making, or outcome oriented research.

The Importance Of Eating Healthier & Always Improving Your Diet

As a nation, the United States is barreling towards a healthcare crisis that will be difficult to avoid. The majority of Americans are now overweight or obese and this mostly comes down to the decisions about what to eat. Let your kids pick new veggies to try and let them peel or cut (if they are old enough) the vegetables. My kids get to choose which zucchini or butternut squash we will buy and which oil we will cook them in. Letting them choose which healthy oil to cook the vegetables in (such as avocado or olive oil) will give them a little more control. I also often let them choose the spices so we can change up the flavors. Do this to your liking, obviously, but cumin and cinnamon (not cinnamon sugar) are common selections in our house. This is a great habit to get into and if your kids have fun, they will carry this tradition onto their children. It also builds a powerful bond with your kids. We talk about the day and smell the different spices and try to describe them when cooking.

Pennsylvania District Attorneys: ‘We Will Not Prosecute’ Businesses Defying Governor’s Orders

An increasing number of Pennsylvania district attorneys are stating that their offices will not prosecute businesses for violating Gov. Tom Wolf’s (D) orders restricting them from reopening.

“People are being smart, wearing masks, and maintaining social distance. Using criminal sanctions would not be helpful,” Dauphin County district attorney Fran Chardo said in a Saturday press release, which indicated that prosecution would only occur in an “extraordinary circumstances.”

“The criminal law is a blunt instrument and is not ordinarily used for enforcement of a Governor’s decree,” Chardo added.

Dauphin County is one of several Pennsylvania counties that Wolf has failed to allow to move on to the next phase of reopening. It remains in the most restrictive red phase — a lockdown phase that prevents most business owners from resuming operations.

Wolf recently extended the lockdown order for counties remaining in the red phase to June 4. Only “life sustaining” businesses are permitted to operate, with a small exception for those who applied for waivers — a controversial process that has been under intense scrutiny, spurring a class action lawsuit on behalf of businesses that were rejected for reasons that remain largely unknown.

Dauphin County Board of Commissioners Chairman Jeff Haste outlined the county’s plan to defy Wolf’s order on Friday, demanding the governor to “return our state to the people (as prescribed by our Constitution) and not run it as a dictatorship.”

The decision to remain locked down “has ruined the livelihood of millions of hard-working Pennsylvanians in exchange for 0.4 percent of our population,” Haste explained, expressing sympathy for those who lost loved ones to the Chinese coronavirus while also noting “great concern for the families that now have to struggle with financial concerns, mental health stress, addiction and more because of the shutdown.”

“For centuries, our people and businesses have shown they can adapt to changes to survive and prosper,” Haste said. “They cannot, however, do a thing when a dictator and an unelected secretary place them in lockdown.”

We “stand behind our District Attorney in his decision not to prosecute any case against a business that chooses to open following the mandated guidelines as laid out in the yellow phase of reopening PA,” he added.

Chardo is not the only district attorney to express that stance.

Lebanon County commissioners said the county “plans to move forward and will require businesses who are ready to reopen to follow CDC guidelines” despite the governor’s decision to exclude the county from moving forward. District attorney Pier Hess Graf indicated that her office will not prosecute business owners who opt to reopen in defiance of the governor’s orders.

“Effectively the governor’s orders revoked our personal freedoms and liberties as individuals,” Graf stated in a release.

Richard Branson to Sell $500 Million Worth of Virgin Galactic Shares to Save Company

In April, Branson who owns 51% of Virgin Atlantic offered to mortgage his private Caribbean island, where he has lived tax-free for the last 14 years, as collateral to secure a UK government loan to help his business empire.

Sir Richard Branson is to sell $500 million (£405 million) in Virgin Galactic shares to help save his other businesses including Virgin Atlantic, the Guardian reports.

Virgin Galactic, the American space tourism venture which is 55 percent owned by the billionaire intends to sell 25 million shares via a series of transactions.

The shares, sold via Sir Richard’s British Virgin Islands-based shell company Vieco 10, account for around a fifth of the billionaire’s stake in the space tourism business.

As reported in the BBC, Virgin Group said it will use the proceeds to support its “leisure, holiday and travel businesses” hit by “the unprecedented impact of Covid-19.”

The airline and tourism industry has been badly affected by the coronavirus pandemic as governments around the world imposed travel restrictions to help slow down the spread of the virus.

Last week Virgin Atlantic announced plans to cut more than 3,000 jobs and end its operation at Gatwick Airport.

Virgin Atlantic’s flights from Gatwick – grounded due to the collapse in demand caused by the coronavirus pandemic – will not restart. Some routes will be switched to Heathrow.

Rival airline British Airways announced earlier this month it was planning to cut 12,000 jobs, and it also emerged it is considering closing its Gatwick base.

Meanwhile, 15% of the retail estate used by Virgin Holidays will close this year, and the travel firm will be renamed Virgin Atlantic Holidays.

Last month Virgin Australia collapsed into administration and left Virgin Atlantic in severe financial difficulty.

Virgin Atlantic has been seeking emergency investment but is also hoping to gain a state bailout to help the struggling company while travel restrictions are in place.

Branson has been criticized for seeking financial help from the taxpayer due to his vast personal wealth.

As well as selling shares in Virgin Galactic, Branson has said he will put his luxury Necker Island resort up for collateral to secure a UK government loan believed to be around £500 million.

As reported in the BBC, in March Chancellor Rishi Sunak wrote to airlines and airports urging them to find private funding and the government would only step in as a “last resort” during the coronavirus crisis.

Nolte: NBC News Goes on Desperate Fake News Rampage

NBC News has always sought to deceive its gullible audience, but as of late, using deceptively edited video, the far-left news outlet has been on an even more desperate rampage to mislead.

This Sunday on Meet the Press, host Chuck Todd told one of the most shameless and audacious lies in media history. Using a selectively-edited video to beat all selectively-edited videos, Todd told his audience that when asked to justify dropping the case against Trump’s former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, Attorney General William Barr said, “History is written by the winners.”

To make his point, Todd cut to video of Barr saying, “History is written by the winners” and then scolded Barr:

Oh, sure, Barr used those words, but Todd deliberately took the attorney general out of context about as far as you can take someone out of context.

Here’s what really happened…

During an interview with CBS last week, Barr was asked what history will make of his Flynn decision, and Barr thoughtfully replied with this:

Do you see just how far gone these people are?

What’s more, Todd had to know he would get caught, but he’s become so partisan, insulated, and arrogant, he no longer cares.

Chuck Todd is a troll now.

Meet the Press was once the crown jewel of journalism, but Todd has twisted and perverted it into just another tired, predictable, loud, and dishonest cable news hour, and one that is hobbled by credibility issues. It can attract attention only when Chuck Todd is caught trolling with his lies.

And that’s only the latest fake news sin from NBC News. On Friday, MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski did the exact same thing with the exact same Barr quote.

“Cable news network MSNBC aired a similarly edited clip on Morning Joe on Friday,” my colleague Joel Pollak reported. “Host Mika Brzezinski slammed Barr’s history comment: ‘And that tells you everything you need to know. Might makes right.’”

So once again, here is NBC News deliberately misleading its audience and trolling Trump and Barr with deliberate lies.

And then it happened again…

On that very same Friday, Brzezinski’s husband Joe Scarborough — who’s never gotten over Trump dumping him in 2016 — retweeted a different out-of-context video, this one put together by Late Night Last-Placer Jimmy Kimmel. The video purported to prove Vice President Mike Pence faked carrying medical supplies for a photo-op. But the truth is that Pence only joked about faking it. Scarborough later apologized, but once again another NBC News Clown proved that these mistakes only ever happen in one direction.

Last week, it was far-left CBS News getting caught for the third time using video in the most dishonest way imaginable to deceive its audience and embarrass Trump.

This time it’s NBC News being caught for the third time.
