absolutely common practice because of the way teacher union have teacher and admin contracts set up. If they fire a teacher with a year contract, or an admin with a 4 yr contract, they have to pay out the contract, so it's usually, "if you will quietly leave and not demand the full contract amount, we wont call the law."
