It was most likely a good guy sting. There were different copies of the call transcript. Pence was shown what McCabe had which didn't match what Flynn told him. Pence didn't know of the sting.
So now good guys have to tie up loose ends wrt to the MSM about the people who weren't in on it. Best way is to leak an apology.
