Two years before becoming vice president, Pence and then-Indiana Sen. Dan Coats, had a serious conversation about their political futures. Pence was weighing whether to seek a second term as Indiana's governor or the presidency, Brower writes.
"We talked about the future and where God might lead each of us,” Coats is quoted as saying in her book. We prayed that God would be clear, and I think I raised the question that we should pray for clarity, not for what we want but clarity for what God would want.”
