I come from both backgrounds. Of course there are differences between both camps - I learned that Catholics understand scriptures better and unlike Protestant churches, Catholic church has roots in Christ and his apostles. Other difference is that Catholics have a much bigger accent at mercy and forgiveness, so maybe that's why I wish the pope getting a cutoff from evil powers. This is why I think even the evil people deserve mercy if they really regret doing what they did - and unlike some Catholics who say it's too late, I'd say: it's never too late. And with some of the recent moves of the pope I'd say he deserves a second chance.
But hierarchy shouldn't matter that much. We are one Church in Christ. If there are people who are responsible for divisions, I'd say popes and corrupt priests and bishops. Well, you see, I recently watched a documentary on a Patriotic Catholic Church of China (the legal government managed church). You'd say, mind control and pure evil: I won't agree. The government has pretty much no influence over local branches and it all depends on the community and local priests. Same here: Vatican may be what it is, but it shouldn't matter for us that much - wanna help rebuild the Church? Start low, don't look at the human created power structures as they don't mean much. Certainly don't go for the divisionfags. Also, think about Orthodox churches inb4 muh Russia.
