Senior executive at WA Police demoted after 'intimate liaisons' with young staff member

A sex scandal has led to the demotion of a senior executive at the WA Police Force after it emerged he had "intimate liaisons" with a young staff member who sent him nude photographs.

Former Office of Information Management assistant director John Purcell had an affair with an employee and used the police computer system to receive the photos, which also included images of her semi-nude and wearing only underwear, from 2013 to 2016.

The woman, who no longer works for WA Police, was overseen by Mr Purcell from 2013 to 2014.

Their secret relationship was exposed after an Internal Affairs email audit and Mr Purcell took a significant pay cut.

The father-of-one, who has worked for police since 1992 but is not a sworn officer, took his case to the WA Industrial Relations

Commission, arguing the demotion was "harsh and unfair" because he had an otherwise unblemished record and had taken steps to redeem himself.

But last week, the commission ruled his demotion was appropriate.

"The appellant's misconduct can only be described as brazen and cavalier," the commission said.

Mr Purcell also shared sensitive information via email to an unauthorised person between 2015 and 2016.

Losing his Level 8.3 employment status, and dropping down to a Level 5.4 role, means he is unlikely to have access to sensitive or confidential material.

The commission said Mr Purcell had displayed a complete disregard for his obligations as a senior executive, noting it was sustained misconduct over several years.

"As a very senior manager of the respondent, the appellant was largely immune from scrutiny and oversight, which enabled his behaviour to go undetected," the commission said.

"As a senior employee, the respondent was entitled to place its trust in the appellant's integrity, probity, and the exercise of his managerial discretion, which trust was breached."

FBI no longer trusted? ODNI says spies will take over US election security briefings

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) has reassigned the job of counterintelligence briefings to US political campaigns and candidates from the FBI, presumably over the misconduct during the 2016 election.

Going forward, all intelligence-based threat briefings to “candidates, campaigns and political organizations” will be provided by the National Counterintelligence and Security Center, the acting head of ODNI Richard Grenell announced on Friday.

The announcement went almost unnoticed in Washington until pointed out by filmmaker Mike Cernovich, who said it amounted to “a polite way of saying that the FBI is no longer trusted.”

Donald Trump Junior confirmed that interpretation, saying that the FBI and other institutions has been “corrupted at the top and need a thorough cleaning before they gain back the trust Americans once bestowed upon them.”

The change is but the latest reform Grenell has pushed through at the ODNI since he took over as acting chief in February. It follows last week’s revelations that the FBI sought to entrap President Donald Trump’s first national security adviser Michael Flynn after the 2016 election, first getting him fired from the White House and then improperly prosecuted for perjury.

Corona-hounds: UK launches trials for ‘Covid-19 SNIFFER DOGS’

Trials have begun in the UK to find out if dogs can be trained to detect Covid-19. If successful, the bio-detection canines could be used as a "non-invasive" way to identify people sick with coronavirus.

Researchers at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) will carry out the first phase of the trial, working with the charity Medical Detection Dogs and Durham University. It will be funded by money from a £500 million ($605 million) UK government pot set up to assist "innovative schemes" in the fight against Covid-19.

Dogs are famous for their incredible sense of smell and have for years been used to detect drugs and explosives, as well as to track missing people. Recent research suggests that some dogs can detect certain forms of cancer in humans, as well as diseases such as malaria and Parkinson's disease.

Medical Detection Dogs says that there's evidence that the dogs, each capable of screening up to 250 people per hour, can be trained to detect the odor of disease "at the equivalent dilution of one teaspoon of sugar in two Olympic-sized swimming pools of water."

"Bio-detection dogs already detect specific cancers and we believe this innovation might provide speedy results as part of our wider testing strategy," said Minister for Innovation Lord Bethell.

The hope is that the dogs, Labradors and Cocker Spaniels, will be able to identify the novel coronavirus even on asymptomatic carriers.

The UK has the fourth-highest number of coronavirus cases in the world, at nearly 237,000. The deadly pathogen has killed just under 34,000 people in Britain. Initially criticized for his slow reaction to the virus, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson placed the country on lockdown in late March. These lockdown measures were eased this week, but some restrictions will remain in place for at least the summer.

Most atrocities in human history have all been committed by individuals and agents of government who were “just following orders” or “just obeying the law.” The virus didn’t give any orders. This is all a part of the larger plan to keep the public panicked about a virus and looking the other way when the tyrannical boots of the state come down on them. We know this is what the media does, and we know they are doing it to keep the ruling class in power and the public panicked and in a constant state of fear so they will comply with any and all enslavement measures.
