Dr. Anne Schuchat Testified Before U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee
Dr. Schuchat is the Principal Deputy Director at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which is part of the Dept. of Health and Human Services. She testified before the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee on June 15, 2018. This is the same hearing at which Dr. Fauci and Dr. Bright testified.
Dr. Anne Schuchat June 15, 2018 "Written Testimony". This testimony reinforces the testimony of doctors Fauci and Bright in some important ways. The Deputy Director testified that CDC is "the eyes and ears of the biopreparedness complex…". CDC is responsible to help "communities prepare for, detect, and respond to, public health consequences of all hazards." This has been CDC's "core mission" for "72 years".
Central to CDC's mission is a program called Public Health Emergency Preparedness Cooperative Agreement Program (PHEP) which includes their Cities Readiness Initiative (CRI). We'll come back to this shortly. CDC plays a critical roll in the Public Health Emergency Medical Countermeasures Enterprise (PHEMCE). Dr. Bright and Dr. Fauci coordinate with PHEMCE.
Through ASPR - Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (remember Dr. Bright is a deputy to ASPR) and Public Health Emergency Medical Countermeasures Enterprise (PHEMCE) "CDC works with other HHS agencies and other federal partners to enhance preparedness for chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats, and emerging infectious disease."
