I actually went to Hoagland's house in New Mexico in 2000. I was not impressed, it was a disorganized mess and sort of run down. Myself and two friends went to a Mexican restaurant for dinner with him and his then partner. It was the most embarrasing public meal i ever had in my life. A waiter accidently spilled a bit of salsa out of a serving bowl and it landed on Hoagland's girls' phone. Hoagland went ballistic. She was cool about it, it wasn't much, maybe a tablespoon at most, wiped right off. But Hoagland went off on the waiter so badly. I really felt bad for the poor young guy. It was bad.
Hoagland offered me a colab with him for a near future at the time deal in Houston. I politely declined. What an asshole that one is.
