I think part of this highly public 'war' based on concepts of health now is due to the CrossRoads we're at.
The need to give humanity new adventures (space) - the need to find 'new worlds' for eternal rebels/freedom seekers to stretch their legs (no more new Earthly continents left to separate freethinkers from control freaks).
That's going to need a Loada Money.
So, it seems there is a sect within the controlling class who are prepared to sacrifice an age old Golden Goose and finally admit and prove that medicine has been a fraud, cures exits, it doesn't need endless streams of never-ending research funding into never-ready cures.
Releasing medicine from the fraud in turn releases investment into exploration/off-world mining/colonisation/wild-west prospecting and places for free minded souls to escape to.
