Visitors return to recreation spots in Japan after virus emergency partially lifted
Visitors were seen returning to popular resort locations in some parts of Japan on May 17, the first Sunday since the state of emergency declared over the novel coronavirus outbreak was lifted in 39 of the country's 47 prefectures. The eastern Japan prefecture of Kanagawa, which is still placed under a state of emergency, saw a number of visitors. At Shonan Beach Park in the city of Fujisawa, people were seen surfing and walking along the beach. Meanwhile, Nagashima Spa Land amusement park in the city of Kuwana, Mie Prefecture, reopened for the first time in about a month after a state of emergency was lifted for the central Japan prefecture. But there were only a few visitors as prefectural governments are asking residents to refrain from moving across prefectures.
A man from Nagoya in the neighboring prefecture of Aichi, who visited the amusement park with his 9-year-old daughter, said, "I come here frequently, but was surprised to see such few people."
